Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
Here’s an interesting question. I know Pope Benedict XVI was a fountain pen user. I saw a photo with Pope Francis using what appears to be a fountain pen with a hooded nib. It appears to be a Jinhao, but I am not an expert on this.
What type of pen do you think this is?

That photo is *very* grainy, to say the least. If you told me the pen was a rollerball, I would believe it.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
I know he received a number of fountain pen over the years, as gifts, such as Campo Marzio, Aurora and so on which he sold away. Fountain pens are probably mandatory for official documents as his predecessor used one as well. Indeed looks like a hooded nib or a sheaffer conical nib, but we need better photos, or a video, to start a proper hunt.

Yes, that looks like a Triumph style nib. The clip looks as if it runs over the top of the cap, quite an unusual styling.

That pen is standard issue at the Vatican Bank. They have a matching gold ball chain attached from the tassie to the teller's counter. He swiped it.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
I will try to find a better photo. Great observation on the clip. In modern pens Pineider has a clip that goes over the cap top. I think there are also some Sheaffer pens which also are similar. Great feedback. Thanks.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
If my memory is correct, Pope Benedict enjoyed some razzle-dazzle. Pope Francis as a jesuit takes a more simple approach to things and is known to turn down many of the more ornamental objects of his office. It would not surprise me if Pope Francis uses fountain pens but I would be shocked if his pen had any monetary value. If he is ever pictured using a fancy pen I assume it was handed to him and not something he personally owned.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
What else could it possibly be, but an Italix Papal Essential?
Of course, that might be a clerical error.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
That pen must get quite a workout. He uses it to write those multi-million dollar settlement checks.

Re: Pope Francis’ Fountain Pen
Great thinking. I read someplace that Pope Francis used to give his silver gifts, including pens and picture frames, to a silversmith whom was just starting his business. This silversmith would embellish the items and sell them to buy food and supplies for the poor. So maybe it is a Jinhao, like this 3019 I saw online.
