    Default MB corner

Yes, I know. It's not really a "pretty" picture, and those...they all look the same. But those are 50 years old, and they don't write the same! That's why there are 3 1/2 of them inked and ready to go.

(Just a picture as a distraction from angry or depressing threads.)

I still don't own an MB writing instrument. I have a bunch of boots, though!

You should consider getting one or two or more.......

They are not the worst pens somebody could use, and life is short.

I have around five MBs, all of them are either 146 and 149s and I am sorry to say that they don't see very much use which is nuts because they are a pleasure to use, they work extremely well and they look very good indeed. I feel especially guilt about one 149 that was a presentation gift in 2008 that has been filled once and put away.

I find that using a 149 for everyday use is a bit like taking a Bentley to buy a loaf of bread, the car is perfectly capable and will transport the bread home without an issue but its just a bit of overkill, if someone dents the car door whilst it is parked that bread will become the most expensive loaf around.

Using a 149 for a shopping list and my other humdrum notes feels a bit much, or am I overthinking this?

I'm almost the same although I always have at least one Mb filled that I write letters with.
Yes it does seem a bit like overkill to use a 149 as an everyday pen. Mine has never been written with since it's last Mb service years ago, and that's a shame because it has a juicy BB nib.
I've also gone off my Woolf since it had to go backwards and forwards to Mb a couple of times, but I'm sure that will come back into rotation.
I'm starting to sell off those that I never use. At my age it makes sense.

You are lucky, at my age nothing makes sense.

I was talking to a manager in an MB boutique about MB LEs, he told me that most of the Limiteds and Writers edition are sold before they come into the shop and he doubted that they ever see ink, not sure if that means they are bought as investments or ornaments, I can imagine that people have many different views on that.

I used to use an MB all the time at work, needed a refill every other day. I used to enjoy that, especially when people hid their Bics away in meetings.

I don't have many Montblancs and most of them that came my way were traded away, but this one is definitely my favourite. I have it since a couple of years and want to keep it. The pen writes fantastic. But the pencil does see even more use.

It makes sense to me because if something happened to me my OH would not have much of an idea about what each of my pens is worth. He might know that the Mb's weren't cheap but that's about it.

I have heard of people just throwing everything away, they just didnt want to think about selling things or even donating them. I sometimes think it would be a good idea to have an arrnagement with a respected seller on the basis of 'would you mind if my OH makes contact with you after I am gone and you sell what you can on a consignment basis, better that than landfill.

It is a stark reality that the vintage pens that we treasure today will one day be returned to that huge pen pool from whence they came.

If I snuff it my husband is equally knowledgeable about pens. If we're both gone, none of the rest of the family have any idea about them. Pity, because I have several thousand pounds-worth of stock sitting there, apart from the pens that are my own.

I've had several Mont Blancs over the years, all sold on, of course. The 40s and 50 pens are superb. Some of the later ones are a little too slim or have nibs that I didn't like so much.

Nice 32! I almost picked up a piston filler like that. Maybe I should've but got cold feet. Meanwhile I haven't inked my 221s in months so I guess I will have to do so soon.

I am thinking about making a list for when I kick it of stuff that's worth the trouble to sell. It shouldn't take too long lol.

These are just a couple two-digit jobs, a 14 OBB and a 24 BB. The 24 may be my favorite pen in my entire hoard.
