    Default Osmia Luxus

I have a lovely old Osmia Luxus I would like to get back to work. Making it a daily writer.
It has a push button filler which is leaking air if i blow true it and generally not working.

Any advice is welcome. I would like to disassemble it to see the internals but have no idea how to go about it safely.
As a craftsman i have plenty of experience working on fine mechanical items but I have no experience with fountain pens besides nib tuning. I am looking for someone with specific experience repairing Osmia pens to guide me true the process.

    Thank you for your help.

Whereabouts in the world are you Sumi?

The reason for my asking is that the Osmia 250 is a nice pen, taking it apart is not so difficult but if you are near a repair professional then personally, I would not not be steering you on a home repair with this particular pen.

I am in Belgium and have reached out to someone who I suspect is an expert in Germany. Responses are very slow and I have not heard anything for some time i hope he is safe and well during these strange times.

There are some excellent pen restorers in Europe, I will give you the names of a couple and others may hold up their hands and say 'Me Too'. A consequence of the lock down is that some people may not want to leave their homes to go to the mail or are just stopping work for a couple of weeks,

Restoring a button filler pen is not difficult and I am sure that you could find the skills to do the job. You will need some supplies including a sac, shellac, french chalk.

You can probably get away with not buying any tools.

The Osmia is, I think, a celluloid barrel and a hard rubber section, celluloid needs to be treated with some respect especially anywhere near heat and if this was a cheaper pen or a pen in less good condition I would be saying go ahead but the pen looks excellent and it would be a great shame if you damaged the pen during the time that you were trying to do a repair.

There are a number of restorers, one to consider is Classic Pen Engineering

    http://www.classicpenengineering.co....l-repairs.html

I would send him an email and ask if he is open for business.

Best of Luck and I hope that you can come back and tell us how you got on.

I agree with Classic Pen Engineering. I've dealt with Derrick Purser on several occasions. He does excellent work.

I am well aware of that although I have seen other Osmia pens with similar nibs.
Already I am in the process of acquiring an original Osmia nib.
However this one with it’s fine square nib is a superior writer as well.

Apologies if this seems all too obvious but if you are buying a second nib then ask the repair person to fit the nib at the same time. There is a world of difference in the quality of the writing when a nib is correctly set to the feed as opposed to the best efforts of the average user.
