Ink Review: Aurora Blue ink
Today I’m reviewing Aurora Blue ink.
Aurora Blue is a rich sapphire blue ink that leans slightly more purple than several other sapphire blue inks. It’s a really attractive shade of blue.
This is the first time I’ve written with Aurora Blue ink and I was very impressed with it.
It is a well behaved ink that didn’t suffer from any starting issues when I put the uncapped pen down to do swab tests, dry times and water resistance.
It dried within 12-15 seconds on the Clairefontaine Triomphe paper and didn’t smear after it was dry.
Aurora Blue ink is available in 45ml glass bottles from many outlets worldwide. In the UK it's available from The Writing Desk at £11.99.
- Flow Rate: Very good.
- Lubrication: Very smooth.
- Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
- Start-up: Immediate.
- Saturation: Not saturated
- Shading Potential: Some nice shading seen.
- Show-Through: Some seen on Rhodia DotPad and Tomoe River 52gsm papers.
- Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None seen.
- Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
- Staining (pen): Not seen after 1 week - easy clean-up.
- Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands after two washes.
- Clogging: Not seen.
- Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows a little water resistance.

Re: Ink Review: Aurora Blue ink
Aurora blue has been a mainstay in my inkbox for a very long time. I've never done a controlled comparison, so this review is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Ink Review: Aurora Blue ink
Thanks for another great review, Chrissy. You clearly put show much time and care into these. Aurora Black is my favorite black, Aurora Blue-Black is meh (it won't flow out of some of my pens), and this blue is a bit to thin for me. But thanks for having me look at it again.

Re: Ink Review: Aurora Blue ink
Aurora blue fades over time, rather dramatically and in a hurry. I found a stack of "currently inked" sheets from only a couple years ago from when I was in my old office. I was admiring them everything looked fine except the entries for Aurora Blue. Perhaps in a closed up book it isn't an issue but on loose sheets it was just a dusty relic of what it once was. A note I put up on my fridge only a year ago is also faded badly. Maybe it is the sunlight, thought my refrigerator gets none as it sits in a dark corner, so who knows.
YMMV.

Re: Ink Review: Aurora Blue ink
Nice review Chrissy. I really like Aurora Blue, as it seems very well behaved in all respects. For another blue that aso does well but without the purple tone of Aurora, try Visconti Blue.
