Default Closest alternative to Sailor Jentle Yama-dori?

I like so much the Sailor Yama-dori: colour, shading/sheen, and specially how it looks like in my EDC combination of paper and pen.

But... where I'm living now, cannot find it to buy. And doesn't make sense to pay $25 for shipment costs from nearby countries.

So, I'm looking for an alternative. Any of you like this ink too, and have tested any other which very close looking and behavior?

    By now I'm thinking about:

    - Robert Oster Fire and Ice (or Lake on Ice, or Soda Pop Blue)

    - Sailor Manyo Yomogi

    - KWZ Walk over Vistula

All of these I can buy here without issues. Not cheap, but acceptable price as are sold in local shops.

Which one would be the closest to Sailor Jentle Yama-dori?

Or could you recommend any other ink?

    Thanks!

Take a look at Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku.

Sailor Yama-dori is a blue-leaning teal and there are several good alternatives. These include P.I. tsuki-yo and Diamine Eau de Nil. Waterman Mysterious Blue is a reasonable alternative.

Robert Oster Fire and Ice is a quite saturated blue rather than a blue leaning teal. I haven't tried Sailor Manyo Yomogi but it looks like it might be a reasonable alternative if that's available where you are,

Here are some swatches so that you can see what some different but similar inks look like:

It's interesting, but I think it's a bit too green for a formal, "business" use, and/or maybe a bit too light/bright.

I fogot to mention the intended use, sorry. My EDC includes two pens and notebook. Always, one pen is loaded with a "funny, colourful, personal use" ink, and the other one with any variation of blue which can be used in a formal environment while still have some character - not a play blue or blue-black.

Thank you so much, it's easier to look at the patches all together than to look through many web browser tabs

Indeed, both Eau de Nil and Tsuki-yo are very similar. Maybe Yama-dori is more teal and those are more blueish, but very close, and both of then I can buy here locally.

I never tried any Robert Oster, they look interesting because people usually talk good about them, but there are so many different in the same range that it's hard to choose - and sadly here we don't have any vendor selling test vials

Sailor Manyo are relatively new inks, still no many tests around internet. It looks to me very similar to the old good Yama-dori, but again it's a very expensive ink - around $20/50ml... to compare, Iroshizuku 50ml are around $14 and Diamine 30ml around $5.

I'l take a closer look at those, I think one of those will be the replacement for my Yama-dori until I travel to Europe at the end of the year and can buy anything.

Eau de Nil is very, very close; I have both.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

Sounds like you have had a great and fast answer, just thought I'd mention that it can be useful to look at the blog Mountain of Ink. Eg. You can look at the page of all teal inks together and click on any one swatch to see a review of it:

Eau de Nil is the closest from my use; mysterious blue looks like a washed out version and I’d say R&O fire and ice is gorgeous but very saturated in comparison.
FWIW Ku Jaku whole gorgeous is a much brighter teal and leans more green

    Thank you!

Right now almost discarded Eau de Nil because lack of any sheen, but as it's cheap maybe I'll buy anyway

Discarded already Fire and Ice because I don't want to use a shimmering ink in a non-modern pen - it will be my Targa.

Undecided between Walk over Vistula and RO Lake of Fire... but I think it will be one of these.

On the paper Sailor Yomogi looks very close, but I cannot find a shop nearby with tests, and it's a bit expensive for just give a try...

Came as news to me that there was a shimmering Fire and Ice. Has RO discontinued the non-shimmery one?

Interesting to see how very close Eau de Nile is to Yama Dori in colour.

I was also interested to find out so I've compared both myself. They are very close.

OK, I found the Yama-dori locally... my fault: it's not Jentle Yama-dori anymore, but Shikiori Yama-dori.

I contacted the local distributor for Sailor in this country. It seems as more than one year ago Sailor discontinued the 50ml bottles except for the "plain" black, blue and blue-black. So now Jentle are only those 3 colors, and the former Jentle colors moved to the Shikiori name, and in small 20ml bottles.

    I didn't know about it, so I was struggling by not being able to find one Jentle bottle in the country... {facepalm}

Order already a bottle of Shikiori Yama-dori

But, many (new to me) interesting inks showed up in this thread too... I'm going to buy a bottle of Eau de Nil too in my local shop, as it looks interesting and is cheap.

Thank you everyone for the advice!

Uups, sorry, you're right. It wast the J.Herbin Emerald de Chivor which I discarded because of the shimmering, not the Fire & Ice. Sorry, these days I've been through so many reviews that they are a bit messed up in my head.

No worries, just thought I'd missed something (else) during my year's hiatus. And I know the feeling - the Guess the Ink thread can have much the same effect.
