    Default Cwn Idwal

I like a good dark green ink and hope that this ink from Pure Pens fits the bill, its on its way.

The name comes from a corrie in Northern Snowdonia, pic below, I think that it looks spectacular, a place to sit and wonder.

It looks a wonderful place, it would be very special to sit at the waters edge, on those rocks, and just take in the power of nature for an hour or two.

Last time I went, there was a touch of snow here and there on the way up to the lake.

It really is a classic ink and a firm favourite.

All of their inks look lovely. Any sense of their reliability or safety for pens in general?

There are not many independant reviews of the inks but there is a helpful review of the brand on this blog:

I would sincerely hope that the company has carried out field tests before offering them for sale. I am normally very risk averse but I have to admit that I have no concerns in terms of damage or staining to the pens.

They look good value and I like the idea of having something new.

As their inks are produced by Diamine, Noodlers, KWZ and maybe others by now, I reckon that they will be pretty damn good in any pen.

The ink has arrived today, I have read somewhere else that some cultures around the world do not have a word for blue, that colour that we call blue is wrapped up all within a broader word for green. In the bottle, Cwn Idwal looks blue, as blue as blue can be, on the paper it is a superb green, highly recommended.

The only minor thing I would change is that I have swapped the ink into 2 of the old Conway Stewart squat little 30ml glass bottles because I usually fill button or lever fillers and one day this clumsy klutz will spill all the ink from the tallish original bottle.

It sounds really unusual. I think we should see a writing sample

I'm also a clumsy klutz with tall bottles and have a sort of triple system in order to help avoid disasters. I start with a shallow, shiny glazed, plant pot saucer then stand a squat jar on that. Whenever I use a tall bottle or even a 30ml Diamine bottle I place it inside the squat jar before filling my pen. For sample vials I have a heavy glass candle holder that has a small hole in the centre. The vial fits inside there then that goes into the saucer.

So far, touch wood, I haven't tipped a bottle of ink or a vial full of ink into the saucer. If I did though, it's kept very clean so a rescue would probably be possible rather than having a really big mess on the table.

I just recently made a makeshift sample vial holder after dumping another one. I used a wood toy wheel and drilled out the center wider. Looks ugly but it works.

Reminds me of my bottle of Diamine Steel Blue that is labeled "blue," but on paper it is turquoise that's virtually the same color as Visconti Green. The marketing departments of these ink manufacturers are staffed by the colorblind. Perhaps they should all meet annually to agree on names of colors.

    Gwyrddlas would do.

This is the writing sample from Pure Pens, as you can see it is a very dark green with attractive shading, it was just what I was hoping for.
