Default What to do with a Pilot Falcon SF nib

My recently acquired Pilot Falcon was running dry and skipping and since it was not new, and the previous owner had probably sold it because of these issues, I decided to remove the nib and make sure the feed was clean. Suffice it to say that the nib unit, body and cap are still in good condition, and I have learnt an(other) expensive lesson. It seems I am never too old to learn.

My desire is to use the nib in some way but am not able to find a replacement section so I am wondering what my options might be. I also wonder if an o-ring would hold the cartridge in place. The cartridge will sit in the section but is a bit loose and writes very wet.

I'm not sure I fully understand the problem. So you removed the nib and feed and cleaned them but everything (apart from the section?) is still in good condition.

Are you saying that something is now wrong with the section? Was it damaged before you removed the nib and feed? Did you break it in some way by removing or replacing the nib and feed? Is the cartridge/converter nipple broken off? If it is an o-ring will not replace the cartridge nipple or hold a cartridge onto a broken section.

Pilot sections are notoriously difficult to get as they aren't sold as a separate item. It sounds like you will need to source another pen.

Yes, I broke the inside of the section in knocking out the feed and nib. I am able to use it if I am careful but the cartridge is not very secure.

If you broke the nipple off the section, you could goop up the threads with silicone grease and go eyedropper. As long as nothing else broke and there are no leaks.

But, yes you're never too old to learn expensive lessons. I find they get more expensive as time progresses since I've gotten all the cheap lessons out of the way.

For future reference and in case you need to knock out another nib there are hollow metal tubes that you should always use for a C/C pen. Pentooling.com sells them

You won't be able to use that section for a cartridge or a converter if it no longer has a nipple. There isn't a way to continue to make ink flow from the cartridge or the converter down through the nipple and feed to the nib.

You generally don’t need to knock out modern feeds that are designed for cartridges. Take a paper towel and fold it several times. Then grab the nib and feed with it and pull it out. You can twist back and forth ever so slightly as you pull.

Another alternative is that I would consider buying that SF nib from you...

    That might be a solution.
