Hello.
I have recently revived my interest in fountain pens. Better yet, several of my grandchildren have acquired a possible interest.
I have been collecting sporadically for about 20 years. I began collecting in 2000 when I went to Bert Heiserman's shop in Kensington MD in search of a sterling silver Sheaffer snorkel set "like the one my parents gave me on graduating from the 8th grade." I graduated in 1955. Never did find what I thought I remembered, but I have several sterling crest sets.
I now have several hundred pens of various levels of collectibility, but I am mostly a user with expensive taste. I am a practicing lawyer who writes a lot. Writing longhand with a fountain pen allows me to get closer to a final draft than thinking out loud on a key board.
My current favorite users are a Bani-ei fine point eyedropper, a Sheaffer Connaiseur pewter with a medium stub, a Visconti Medici Silver with a reground medium+ stub and a Parker 51 special silver fine point by Ariel Kullock. Since Bert Heiserman's passing I have been without a guide to better target my collection and to fine tune my nibs that did not require attention by a nibmeisyter like John Mottishaw.
This is a long hello, but I am keen on learning more about the current resources for new fancies, like urushi eyedropperurushi "users."
