Many of you will know of Henry Simpole, from his attendance at pen shows or from visiting his stall in The Arcade at Portobello Market in London. In case people here haven’t heard, I’m sad to report that, after a long and difficult battle with ill-health, Henry passed away last Friday. He was hugely respected, popular, talented, generous with his time and so kind. I only visited his stall in the Arcade on two occasions and each time I was entranced by his wonderful overlay work. It was truly beautiful. And although I was tempted by his work for sale at LWES pen shows I prevaricated too long and regretfully never did get round to buying one of his pens.
It’s true to say that he really will be missed. He was a real gentleman.
