Default What is the "official" FP Nickname

I am curious if fountain pen folks have a nickname or other nomenclature to describe those obsessed with fountain pens. In the horology world those obsessed with wristwatches (mechanical but quartz is somewhat tolerated) are called WIS--watch idiot savants. Is there something equivalent in the fountain pen world? Additionally, in the guitar world there is a syndrome called GAS--guitar acquisition syndrome. Is there something equivalent in the fountain pen world? I figure since I am new to the forum I want to make sure I am speaking the correct lingo. Thanks.

I am familiar with WIS and GAS. I’ve been afflicted with both

But for FPs I’ve not seen an equivalent personally

Fountain pen people are intellectual and sophisticated. We don't call each other names or trying to be cute with acronyms.

... we just look down on those with poor taste from our high-perch.

    (just kidding )

I know GAS from my vintage camera days which stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome, in FP community, we just bicker about users vs collectors, modern vs vintage, steel vs gold nibs, line-variations, love vs hate Montblanc, plus other human-nature driven arguments.

We are unique in this regard, really. Just like any other hobbies.

Yeah, we're just a bunch of fountain pen geeks.... Geez! Did I say that out loud?

The WIS world can be frightfully polarized concerning homage---homages are junk and one should buy the real deal vs. homages are great for the 99% and snobs should stay quiet.

I've been watching a lot of Ricky Gervais lately, so I'll stay quiet on this one.

Elsewhere, I've tried to introduce "Nib-elungen". Then when your FP friends call you on the phone, you would hear the Ring of the Nibelungen. But it never caught on.

I've also heard "weirdo", but it's possible that this was just an individual term for me. Personally, I prefer "eccentric".

My mother always described my FP interest as being "penury", so it should probably be "pauper".
In the words of Paul Simon, you can call me Al.

Nicknames need to be bestowed by outsiders, if they’re going to have legs. They’re usually derogatory and then get adopted by the general community more affectionately.

Self-promoted nicknames don’t have the mileage:
“Hi, I’m Laurence – but you can call me “Laurentius”

    Whereafter, everyone calls him “Florence”…
…10 years later, he’s being introduced to newbies as “Uncle Flo”.

    -------------
Don’t want to divert the flow of the thread [see what I did there?], but are there commonly recognised nicknames for particular pen brands?

Are Conklins “Conkers” ? Montblancs, “Monties”?

Of course Esterbrook went through a “Festerbrooks” stage recently…

    Any others?

For some reason I find this thread amusing. I haven't had the motivation to participate in some of the threads in the past few months. So much drama.

I've long joked that we are the Anointed of St. Nibius the Inky (tinted be his name), known by our inky fingers.

But that's just in my weird head.

Considering where we are, shouldn’t it be fountain pen geeks?

Pen nerds & nuts work equally well.
