Default Presenting at the Lone Star Pen Club online meeting

Yesterday, I was hosted by the Lone Star Pen Club which is the place to belong for pen people in Houston, Texas, USA area, presenting "Sketching with Fountain Pens"

This is my first time presenting not about pens, but focusing on how to sketch with them. The main goal for me is to convey that sketching with fountain pens is something that everyone can pick up, develop the skills following some simple methods, and as the result, you gain a new use for your fountain pens, a cool way to journal, and possibly, a new way to see and appreciate the world around you.

It is of course online, which has its benefits but also disadvantages for not being a real-life, face-to-face meeting.

I organized the presentation around 3 points surrounding the Why's, and 5 points covering the How-to and tips, and methods. It went for 1 hour (maybe a bit more) with questions being asked interactively or by using the Chat feature (pretty cool actually).

Last but not least, I would like to publicly thank Mark Goode, the pen club president, who facilitated the meetings, as well as the members of the pen club. What a cool bunch of people who are just passionate about pens and inks.

If you live around Houston, or if you are from Houston area, consider giving them a shout. Lonestarpenclub.com is their website.

Thank you for this! The club seems to have a very active Zoom meeting activity:

    They do!
And given this pandemic situation, I think other pen clubs can and should take note from them.

I'm thinking about creating a workshop out of the presentation.

Yay! You guys should come. They are so nice and invite all no matter where you live! I live in Louisiana, and they have been so welcoming to me.

I would like to watch Will drawing! With the pandemic and all I thought there would be more online "shows", but if there are they are not advertising widely. The Rome one seems to have fizzled out too.
The thing is, we're all pretty on edge at the moment. It would be great if people could be considerate of others in these matters. Not much else will change the situation beyond that. - Jon Szanto

Why canít people read responses to glean the intent and ideas being offered, instead of focusing on things like tone, length and perceived agendas? - Jon Szanto

    You missed my presentation
    I was hoping you'd join.

But you're right, the Lone Star Pen Club is a cool gang of pen people.

Hi David, watching me drawing would be boring.
What I envision is actually drawing together, hence the workshop idea.

If we tackle a chosen subject that can be used to illustrate the techniques I use, the workshop attendees will absorb those techniques, but still end up with their own creation.

I've seen this done with watercolor or oil painting workshops. The difference here is that, it's a lot simpler to setup and tear down, you just need your favorite fountain pen, and a piece of paper.

Do you recommend a nib size or shape for a beginner?

In my presentation, I cover this exact topic.

There seems to be quite a bit of interest for me to repeat the presentation.

If you're interested, send email to redeempens at gmail and I'll notify you if that happens.

Will, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to attend today. I have some health issues going on (occipital neuralgia, a kind of spikey headache that I have had for the last two weeks since an ear and lymph nodes infection). I so wanted to be there.

Hi Denise, that sounded like an awful headache.

Glad to hear from you, I hope you're feeling much better now.
