Default Rohrer and Klingner SketchINK Marlene

    R & K Sketchink Marlene….

In my exploration of waterproof inks, I was long intrigued by the beauty of Marlene, especially after a post by Pterodactylus. So, just before the lockdown I got a sample.

I filled an Ahab and started writing. It’s one of those rich full-bodied blues with lovely, lovely shading. It’s an that ink makes me happy. As I was writing I realized I was whistling this tune. A lovely nostalgic song, from one of the darkest hours in human history. Yet also a song that saved two lives.

I often wonder if the marketing guys at R&K gave this name consciously, after Marlene Dietrich and her seminal movie the Blue Angel or if it’s all just subconscious…

Chrissy has done a deliciously detailed review of this ink. Mine is more impressions….

    • Pens used: Ahab, Jinhao 450
    • Shading: Beautiful
    • Ghosting: Depending nib/ flow combination
    • Bleed through: As above.
    • Flow Rate: Really nice…
    • Lubrication: Good
    • Nib Dry-out: Yes
    • Start-up: I had some difficulty starting it, if left for a few day in both pens. I would recommend using it in a pen where evaporation is nil (Platinum Preppy), unless it’s daily/weekly used pen.
    • Saturation: A lovely deep sky blue…
    • Shading Potential: Oh yes….
    • Sheen: Some on TR
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Yes.
    • Staining (pen): Don’t know yet
    • Clogging: Nope. But I guess it would help to use a pen wash.
    • Water resistance: Water resistant….
    • Availability: Only in bottle.

Please don't hesitate adding your impression or scans... The more the merrier...

    Thanks for your review.
I really like this colour and found it fairly unusual. That may be because I just don't have many inks in this shade range, or there aren't so many around like it.

Thanks Chrissy.... Indeed. It is unusual in colour and I went through my many blues and I couldn't find anything close to it....and it's a difficult colour to capture.....
And while it looks pale in the images, when one writes with it.... the colour is a joyful blue....

Not a big fan of this colour - at least how it appears on my screen. On the other hand, love your writing! It is imbued with an energy of its own.

Thanks for the nice comment The colour looks quite faded as this, if you scroll down Ptereo's post, you can see another dimension of the ink (it's the fourth image)

I also really like Marlene a lot.
    Great color behavior and shading.
