Wink What's Your Biggest Pen Disaster?

As they say, its not a matter of if, but when. Do you have a pen related disaster story to share? Spilled a whole bottle of ink on a rug, bent up an expensive nib, dropped it somewhere you can't get to, lost it somehow, some kind of exploding piston mess? Not so much to bring up bad memories, but more to help us be more mindful!

Ran for a train with a Parker Vacumatic in my jacket pocket, sat down on the train, reached for my pen and it was gone. it had the VACUMATIC cap band from 1937.

Lost ~$2,000 of vintage pens, including my favorite nib in a '50s 146, somewhere along ten miles of Kensington streets and the Rockville Pike between Bert Heiserman's Pen Haven and I-370. Lesson? Always ensure your motorcycle topcase is latched.

    Oh. My.

Wow, I am sorry. As a fellow motorcyclist I know exactly where you're coming from. I've got a 47L Givi on my FZ1 and I occasionally forget to latch it, or I think its latched and its not. I hope at least that this wasn't a recent loss for you and that time has softened the blow.

    15+ years now, I think.

Then there was the faceted sterling Montegrappa Privilege that I bought at a pen show that a penmeister had on commission. A few weeks later, I left it on the counter at the local post office, walked half a minute to my car, immediately returned when I realized I didn't have the pen, and it was gone!

One of my first pens fell out of my pocket at a doctor's office while I changed into one of their gowns. Called them on my way home when I realized it was missing but they couldn't find it.. or so they said.

Bought a Platinum Preppy for the first time...the feed was broken right out of the package and couldn't write anything
Even tho it was very cheap but no one want a broken fountain pen that couldn't write at all!

Taking a duster to a NOS Parker, then noticing that I had polished off the chalk marks.

Not that big a deal in the whole scheme of things, its only money.
