Sheaffer Mechanical Pencil

I recently acquired this vintage Sheaffer Mechanical pencil. It appears to be nearly new. It is slender, about 1/4" diameter and it is 5 1/8" in length. My question is; is the cap removable? Is there an eraser beneath the cap? This cap is difficult to remove. I do not want to damage the cap by using too much force. Any suggestions appreciated.
