    Hmmmm, yeah,...... orange inks.......... difficult........

Yes, better than a yellow one for sure.

It is a quite bright warm orange tone, and it´s still ok to read.
It shows quite some shading using the right nib.
The ink is not at all waterproof,.... not even a bit.
It flows well and behaves also quite good, I observed in opposite to MI#30 not a single trace of feathering.
So from a behavioral point of view a very good ink.

    lol.....

I have to admit, as longer I write with this ink the more I like it.
It looks really pleasent on the paper and it´s behaviour is flawless.

Thanks again to junglejim for setting up the mystery inks. This has been serious fun working through them. Even if I have no idea what I’m doing, lol.

Like a lot of people I struggle with the lighter orange/yellow inks like this, but overall this is a seriously pretty color that behaved quite nicely for me.

    Rhodia 80 g/m2 from a Dot Pad:

    Tomoe River 52 g/m2:

I was surprised to see I had some swatches that were not too far off from Mystery #31:

Chromograph: Although I have not done many tests, this ink was by far the most interesting I’ve seen so far. Yellow, peach, orange, reds all showed up. But the most interesting thing (which I hope you can see in the photo) is the gray residue toward the bottom that never moved from the line where I smeared the ink onto the filter paper. I’m guessing that is what gives it some waterproof quality.

Feathering was quite light, even on copy paper. Which I guess means this ink is somewhat on the dryer side?:

So not surprising shadowing and bleed-through were minor on both the better papers:

    Rhodia 80 g/m2 from a Dot Pad:

    Tomoe River 52 g/m2:

    Copy paper:

Hopefully somewhere in these photos is a bit of data to help you with your guesses. I certainly don't know.

Ok, this was quite difficult to get enough contrast into the picture.
This is again A3 size on Kreul Watercolor 200gsm paper (25% cotton).
I can really recommend this paper, it is really good and quite affordable.

Orange is definitely not my favorite drawing ink.

In opposite to MI#30 I prefer writing over drawing with MI#31.

After using it a while there s nothing negative I could say about this ink, it just performs really good (better than MI#30) writing with it.

Another drawing with MI#31 is still on my list, but something with more linework and less shading.
The lady in Orange depleted almost all my MI#31 stock, because I used extensively much ink and layers to achieve the contrast.
But I´m sure it will be enough for one more line based drawing.

Sorry I'm late getting some tests done I've been staying at the hospital since the 5th with my father, he had a major heart attack and has already had his first surgery putting 2 stents in one artery that was 100% blocked and today he is having his 2nd surgery on another artery that is 95% blocked.

I'm hoping to go home tonight to shower and relax but I still have to help my mother that has late stage dementia.

I'm going to try as hard as I can to do some tests tonight, I really want to see it on an ink swatch next to my noodlers habanero. I'm guessing to do the ink swatch, use a q tip to spread the inks on an index card or something like that.

Again sorry I'm running late getting this test done but I'm trying to be by my father's side since he is so nervous with everything going on.

I’m sorry to hear from your difficult personal situation.
The ink stuff is not important, focus on the important things, YOUR FAMILY!

I still remember when my Dad had a heart surgery years ago (also stents and bypasses) and how it felt.

So take care of your family, all the best for you 🙏

I've written with MI #31 today for the first time but I've had the Lamy Al-Star pen filled since I received it. I've seen no crud anywhere on the nib and it's a yellow/orange ink.

I´ve enjoyed testing and using MI#31.
It is a very well behaving ink, which I liked to write with, drawing not so much.

    I also don´t think that I own MI#31
I own P.W. Akkerman Oranje Boven, but MI#31 is definitely different, much less bright and with brownish undertones.

I compared MI#31 also with J. Herbin Orange Indien and it is really close color wise.
My Orange Indien is a tad muddier, darker, more saturated, but close.

    Good morning!

The Fall weather has begun here on the Central Coast, with our normal summer fog/heavy marine layer and cool winds (June gloom) being replaced with clear blue skies and warmer winds. Yes, our seasons here are the reverse of what the rest of California normally experiences. It also signals a time to change from my morning Irish Breakfast Blend with milk to an English Earl Grey with a thin slice of lemon. [Yeah, I lead a really exciting life!]

Just a note that the ink reveals of MI #30 and #31 will be on 15 October, which will be 2 weeks since the last participant received their ink flight. That should give the others time to evaluate their samples.

    Stay Healthy and Safe!
    All the Best.
