At last all my Swan Mabie Todds are in a safe case.
And this is complete family photo with many pens added to my " MABIE ADDICTION".
This photo looks a "crappy shot' as it was done by my Crappy iPhone.

I certainly will enjoy seeing them. I find those Swans with the Art Deco clip are almost always flexible.

    Dear Eachan,

from my limited number of Swans, I would even say flex nibs are found more often on colored pens...

This is a fairly niche subject, so information is thin on the ground, but the best I've come across is ..that the overfeed , be it a gold bar or just the HR 'over/under' feed, is there to help keep the ink up to the point when the nib is flexed and the tines separate . It sorta makes sense, and in the pens I have with these systems, it works well .

I've also heard it said that the gold overfeed helps prevent drying out.

Oh my, it never dawned on me that I hadn't posted in this thread! (I uploaded to the new pen thread). Last September my wife surprised me by going in cahoots with dear Deb and Eachan of Goodwriters Pens, and gifted me for my birthday. Unique to my collection now are this handsome Mabie Todd Swan 0160 Leverless pen (UK, c1940s) and an earlier Todd pencil from the US branch. The chatelaine pencil has the loveliest hand engraving pattern.

I am blessed by these objects from the past, and the beautiful people who gifted me with them.

That's a lovely looking leverless...how big is it? The coding has always confused me and I guess it's different with these than the later streamlined 4XXX models

It's a smaller pen, measuring 4-1/8" capped. Nice, delicate writer.
