    Default Reusing Cartridges Q&A

So I have been wondering. This is my first time attempting to reusing cartridges, and I notice that there there is still a seal intact at the opening of the cartridge when I tried to clean it out. So I used a toothpick to remove the seal, but there is still some stray plastic that seems to be around that is impossible to get rid of.

The question is should I be concerned that some stray plastic will take off and travel to the feed and into the nib and get stuck inside the feed/nib hence ruining my pen?

The cartridge piercer inside the pen always leaves a flap of plastic when it pierces the cartridge. It's nothing to worry about and you can just ignore it when you refill and reuse your cartridges.. Even if it did somehow manage to detach itself from the internal edge of the cartridge it would only go inside the cartridge. Not inside the feed.

Thanks for the reply. But I actually used a toothpick to get rid of the seal/flap - it's already out of the cartridge... it took some time to get it out, but I did... so yes it can actually escape the cartridge with some random configuration... but in any case that's not even my concern...

I was talking about the plastic that connects the flap/seal and the cartridge, some stray thin plastic, not some big chunk of plastic. Anyways, it's fine this is some first-first-first-world problems, I don't think anyone will care.

But alas, I will at the meantime just use the converter until Sailor sells these. I am hoping this will solve my problem.

On those I use there is always a flap there. I've never tried to remove one and never had a problem with one coming out.
On the other hand I've never used a Sailor pen nor a Sailor cartridge.
Pilot cartridges have is a disc that comes out and that can be removed and replaced.

Oh ok that's ok. Yeah I am talking about Sailor cartridges.

The only way I can think of to describe it is this - you know how when a shark bites flesh, it's not cleanly cut and strays of flesh still kind of float around the wound? That's how I see the cartridge opening... I am worried some stray plastic will come off as it is being re-used...

Yes I've seen that kind of edge on a cartridge. I still reuse them without any problems.
