    Default Hi all and recommendation

    Hello everyone,

First of all, greetings to everyone. I have been passionate about fountain pens over the last few years and decided to join this forum for enhancing my exposure and to blend within the community. This is my first post and hope that this is visible to many of you.

Regarding the recommendation, I am currently looking to buy at least two fountain pens below $100. I am almost decided with one being the Kaweco sport fine nib and currently pondering over the other. I have two pens in mind the first is the TWSBI ECO and the other one is the Faber Castell loom. It would be great to get some recommendations about these or suggestions about some other. Personally I care for the nib the most and looking for a very smooth writing pen within this price range. I prefer fine nib( German) as my handwriting is on the smaller side. It would be great to get some help.

Thanks for reading and look forward to get in touch.

    Regards,
    Debapratim

    Welcome.

TWSBI makes a quality pen at a reasonable price. I used a couple of Diamond 580's, from which the ECO is derived. Smooth writers.

I'd still be using them but I had more pens than I needed when I retired, so I gave them to coworkers.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

Figboot on Pens just did a "Top 10 nibs" video and the Faber-Castell Loom came in at number 10, even over much more expensive pens like the Lamy 2000 (honorable mention). https://youtu.be/2jOHagQkMes The Loom is also the only pen under $100 on that list. (#1 was my grail pen, the Namiki Emperor Vermilion with a #50 nib)

I can speak to the Twsbi Ecos being very good workhorse pens. The Twsbi Vac 700R ($65) has a better nib, though it is more than twice the price of the Eco, and more expensive than the Loom. I don't have a Loom, though I do have Ecos and a Vac 700R.

    Another vote for the Loom.
I have two Faber Castell Loom pens. They both have B nibs. One has a shiny grip and the other is matt.
The nibs are fabulously smooth and the pens are wonderful to write with.
You need to like to feel a pen in your hand as they aren't plastic or lightweight.
These are the first metal grip pens that I've ever tried and liked.
I was even pleased enough to post a pen review on the Loom.

Welcome! I have a kaweco sport, great writer, and a TSBI eco, also very nice writer, pretty wet, which can be tricky on some papers. Might need to look into a loom, never thought about that one. My EDC is a karas kustoms, which is nice and reasonably priced.

Welcome. I have two Kaweco Sport, medium nibs. I like them, but they're not smooth writers compared to my other pens. It depends on the paper of course, and I like writing with them, but on rougher papers like cotton often is, they have a lot of feedback.

    Welcome!
I haven't had a Loom, but I've had Faber Castell pens and the nibs are all delightfully smooth.
The ECO is a good pen, I find the cap to be chunky and inelegant. If that bothers you, look for an ECO-T which looks to me less imposing.
The nibs on TWSBI pens are generally very good, and if yours isn't quite as smooth as you'd like, you can take care of that in just a minute or two with some micromesh.

good luck and see you around!

Personally I donˋt like cartridge pens, so the Loom would not be an Option for me.

My recommendation would be a Pelikan M200 (or if you prefer the silver trim a M205) instead.
