Yikes! The author makes a very good point. It has me considering the use of these waxes for small wooden sculptures I make and others that are antique (of course the wood itself is probably more acidic than beeswax or ethylene wax).
Having to use (hot) xylene is pretty intense. That’s potent stuff and not far removed from benzene. That was sobering.
Lastly, if wax has fallen out of favor with conservators then I see no reason to use wax.
