No problem. I should say that KWZ blue-black is very saturated and almost black on some papers, so it might be still be a contender.

    What!!!

And other German companies can offer free shipping to North America on orders over $50.

This is definitely a snub by Gutenberg.
It is or the might use DHL as another posted suggested. This way you actually receive your package and in good timing. Though it doesn't justify for one bottle of bible ink. But many bottles, their antique dip pen inks, especially the IG one, and some nice parchment paper

Thank you! Not sure it makes me feel better though. I might just content myself with a few samples to try the colours.

    Thanks for clarification Yazeh.

As you said I also think that Scabiosa is not wimpy.

Jens if you're around. I finally got a bottle of Gutenberg Urkundentinte G10.
The colour is a washed out light brown.
    Is that your experience?

This is on TR paper (68 gr)

For years, I've kept MB old-style IG blue-black in a 146 for signing checks and the like. A couple months ago, I decided to switch to ESSRI after comparing their color. Within a month, I started having problems with flow. I thoroughly flushed and refilled with ESSRI. Still problems. I disassembled the section end, ultrasonic treatment, cleaned it all again and used vinegar solution this time, with a final rinse. Refilled with ESSRI. No improvement. I flushed and put the 146 away for the first time in years, while I decide which pen will be my replacement for IG signatures. I suppose I better have a close look at what's in the ESSRI bottle besides liquid.

Fred I read somewhere, that Essri has a one year expiration date.

Then what happens? Earlier this century, Montblanc had begun to put dates of manufacture on the bottom of their bottles, but I paid them no heed. I'm so used to sell-by-dates on food that I don't know what to believe anymore (though they are pretty reliable on organic milk).

    Sample size of one.

I bought a 110ml bottle of ESSRI in 2015. Within a year a considerable amount of precipitate had formed in the bottle so I binned it. Never had any issues in my pens, but I was wary.

Last week I became frustrated trying to fill a pen with Salix. I only have about 10ml left in the glass bottle, so I decanted it into a shot glass to submerge the nib. In so doing, I noticed precipitate in the bottom of the Salix bottle and on the neck of the bottle, reminiscent of wine lees. I washed out the bottle and restored the shot of Salix to it. No issues in any pens to report yet.

    Dear Yazeh,

yes, my G10 comes onto the paper as washed out light brown, too.

The final hue/color looks like the dark parts on your samples.
Then it darkens quickly on alkaline paper like Clairefontaine - on neutral ones it takes longer.
Your samples look as pale as eg MB Swan Illusion, much lighter than mine.
Here Gutenberg G10 is not as dark as DRI, ESSRI or Akkermann G10, but darker than R&K Salix.
A wet wet noodle should match perfectly. Were your nibs dipped only?

    Best wishes
    Jens

No. I filled four pens. The samples are written with one Unic wet noodle and a wet Conway Stewart 330 oblique nib.
The darker line is with the wet noodle.
I also filled a Kaweco EF. It was awful on Japanese paper.
I'll see if I have some Clairefontaine left.
    T
he second sample is on cheap absorbent paper.
The ink does not oxidize, like the Bible ink.
It's wet, almost watery but it has no lubrication, making it dry.

And it pools on paper. Very strange ink indeed....

    Hi Yazeh,

that is really strange. Mine does do a clear change on the paper, like the Bible ink.
The color of your writing samples show that it is oxydised, imo. Sorry to say.
    Hmm.

    Hmm.

    Jens

I contacted the seller. And send them a sample writing. They said that it doesn't look right.
They are debating whether to refund me or send me a new bottle.
When I empty my pens, I see a lovely black/brown.
But on paper it's a washed out brown. It's lighter than diamine sepia...
