If it shades? Potentially yes, if the pen is not too wet.
Btw. ironically I had the nicest shading with nearly rotten DRI... :-)
Salix stays at a dark blue color, Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black is less saturated, but remains a nice blue-black.

That reminds me of the Bible Ink
when it went from purple to black. Though I had understood that Essri would copy/scan as a different colour than black for barristers/lawyers in the UK....
I guess I have to get one and see
Aaaaaahhhh... The serendipity of discovering new inks.

And the sadness of the postage cost
Maybe the shipping is not so high in Europe. The 100 € shipping is for North America.....Which seems excessive. I might drop them a word

I was thinking the same. Other German companies can offer free shipping on relatively small orders, so we know it's not a matter of cost. I think this is a non profit, so a little more would be acceptable, but 100 € feels like a snub. Did they really intend to be perceived as having such an attitude?

I am not a fan of blue blacks in general. So having two bottles of a shade, which I don't gravitate toward seems more like wasteful. I have several bottle like that sitting in the corner. I don't need more

    21€ EU postage.
Which is triple the cost of the ink.
I am inclined to believe they are using DHL or a similar express courier. I refuse to believe that such a high postage cost is for Deutsche Brief Post.

Thanks Jens... From what I gathered thanks to google translate that these iron gall or Eisengallustinte aren't as waterproof as others......

Sorry. I forgot to write to them. I got another ink, which has still not arrived after a month

I dropped them an email, right now. Maybe if others send them emails too, they might become aware that there is an ink market outside of Germany....
    Here is their email:

Don't bother to email. The price is right. They said it might be even higher depending what I order

    What!!!

And other German companies can offer free shipping to North America on orders over $50.

This is definitely a snub by Gutenberg.

Salix always looked wimpy to me. I've used ESRRI for almost 10 years. When I want a dark, permanent ink, that's the one I use for IG. My bottle is almost gone so I might try some others before re-ordering, just to see what's out there.

Salix is wimpy? Well I'm glad to hear that from a reliable source, because that's what I've decided based on a lot looking at posted swabs. I was almost going to order a bottle based on some people's insistence that it's a strong color. Now I won't.

I like Scabiosa. It's not exactly strong, it's a bit dusty, but I think it's a classic old fashioned color. I've been trying the KWZ inks lately, and so far they're satisfying my need for a strong and saturated look.

KWZ IG green #4 - Perhaps a little too green on some papers, but gets darker, and is almost black on darker parts.
KWZ IG red - Very dark, and on my cotton papers in fact brown black after a minute or two. You can see the red if you only put down a dry line.
KWZ IG blue black - Very strong traditional blue black. This is an archival quality IG which is much stronger than any other KWZ IG. I change my tastes over time, but this one is definitely a keeper for me.

I am a bleeding idiot (and I was typing before the require intake of caffeine. I meant Scabiosa, dusty grey/lavender, vintage-looking ink. I'm very sorry for the mix-up. I don't have a hard take on Salix, but for a dark blue-black IG, I still have been sticking with ESRRI.

I've got a few IG inks from KWZ as well, including Gr. #4, but I just don't tend to use them that often. The fact is, I only use those 'type' of inks (waterproofness, mainly) for external correspondence (postcards and addressing) and for that my two constant, regular inks are Namiki Blue and Sailor Kiwa-guro (pigment black).

Sorry for derailing and offering bad info. I've corrected my initial post.

I love Salix - I have at least one pen always inked with it for when I need permanent/waterproof (I fill in a lot of customs forms!) and really enjoy watching the colour change. I like ESS, but I found it deteriorated faster than the Salix, and I don't use enough to be dealing with sludge in the bottom of the bottle, let alone in a pen.

It's what puts me off getting some of the KWZ ig inks - I think the colours are wonderful, but I'm not sure if they don't also have a limited shelf life, and I don't get through the fun colours quickly enough to risk it.
