    Default New 600 Red tortoise!

Pelikan seems to be coming out with a lot of new editions and some of them I can resist. But the new m600 in red tortoise looks incredibly tempting.

The tortoise binde looks fantastic - proper depth and variety in the colours, not just plain stripes like some of the more recent colours. I am feeling quite glad I didn't get the violet and kept my powder dry!

What do you all think? Any 'real life' pictures yet?

I love the new colorway but am not a fan of the darker more clearly defined "hair like" lines in the binde. I love the vintage ones where the changes in color are not so clearly defined/abrupt. This actually applies to the Red Tortoiseshell M101N also (I think they used the same celluloid acetate sheets as material for the binde).

Thanks for the link, amk, I'd have missed that.

Pelikan have rather priced me out of M600s these days, so it'd have to be a real wow to get me seriously considering it. As it stands, it's striking for sure, but not sure I'm wowed. Presume we won't get "real" pics until next month, but that might alter my opinion. At least it isn't white, and that's certainly in its favour as far as this weevil is concerned.

I've pre-ordered mine with delivery expected in December. Can't wait!

I went and looked at it in the link and wasn't wowed. I didn't instantly think "I have to have it." I happen to prefer those bindes that are more clearly defined if that makes sense.

Well, I said I wasn't wowed, but it turned out to be a slow quickish burn instead. Kept going back to the pics, and you all know how that goes... Long story short, a bit of financial negotiation with regard to crimbo pressie and so forth, and there'll be one under the tree. In fact it just came, and it had to have a quick once over to make sure nothing was obviously wrong, didn't it? Back in its box now and in quarantine, but just a teaser for anyone interested:

I looked at the link pictures and thought 'meh', but the real picture looks gorgeous - lucky you! And I'm not normally that interested in new Pelikans

    Hi,
although the “newest” pen in my “flock” happens to be a 1973 400NN M&K, I highly appreciate traditional design reinvented and refined with good idea and good taste. Even the price seems decent. Hope it writes as good as it looks, or perhaps even better.

I wish you a great writing experience with it!

Out side of the 200's I can always find something to do with money not spent on expensive new pens....like repair/clean mechanical watches.....
As much as I like mechanical watches one should only have a couple, not a dozen....same goes for pocket watches.

I actually found that red 600 to be fine with me with the wilder binde.
It's the same problem why I didn't get the Grand Place.............$$$ and the bad part is they don't get cheaper on the used pen market.

Darn it, I never followed up my original post. I got the red torty from Fritz Schimpf, B nib ground to italic, and I'm really really glad that I did; it's a super pen, with really gorgeous variegation and depth in the stripes of the turquoise and a darker red than I'd expected - half way to burgundy but not quite there yet. I'm really glad I got it, though it was a *lot* of my pen budget for the year and I made the impact even worse by having a custom grind.

I like it more than my white tortoise or M400s. Dumping sounds.
