It can get even narrower in geographic usage, such as yinz in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
Hell, in California it's all pretty much "dude".

"When Men differ in Opinion, both Sides ought equally to have the Advantage of being heard by the Publick;
and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

My good lady tells me that "yinz" is something she associates with Pennsylvania Dutch. I didn't know about that one. In the less salubrious parts of Edinburgh the effective spoken "you plural" is unrepeatable in polite society. Yes. That.

The English language has not dispensed with the plural 'you', in any formal sense. Fellow countrymen of my generation still use it extensively, both in written prose and conversation, as do I.
Obviously I cannot speak to all the other bastardisations that have been mentioned in this part of the thread!

When I was studying foreign languages in school, I always translated the 2nd person plural as "Y'all" (at least in my head). Because as any good Texas kid knows, y'all means more than one person. Hollywood doesn't understand that fact. They get it wrong all the time.

That was my answer. 🌻
Fine . It added little to the sum of human knowledge but there we are.
Interesting! I am P.D. and grew up in Dutch country of Pennsylvania, but I don't remember ever hearing that. But I lived in the suburbs, so there's that (my mother corrected my language daily, especially at the dinner table or in front of guests).
I'm gonna start using it now, especially the next time I speak with my mother!
Or "youses" in Beantown.

If it were only one one forum, your suggestion would have merit.
I do think there are folks who are older and perhaps retired who are just bitter. They bring that bitterness into the conversation, and as I stated, for no reason. We all should think about it when we post. Just because our lives are not what we want them to be, we don't need to add more pain that already exists to others.
I think we need to let this negative stuff go and stop bringing the board down with it. Why don't we finish this thread and get back to the pens?
