Smile Sailor Shikiori Shimoyo - Micro review

I had the opportunity to try a sample of this thanks to a generous donor.

Please note: In my haste I mistakingly wrote Chu-Shu and not Shimoyo....This is Sailor Shimoyo

I’m not a Sailor convert yet.
While I found the colour intriguing and pleasing to use, it looks nicer scanned that in real life, to my eyes.

It was a bit of pain to clean the pen. Probably it would have been much easier if I’d used a modern pen

    • Pens used: Conway 330 - Oblique nib
    • Paper used Midori
    • Shading: Yes with a flex nib
    • Ghosting: A bit - Though with a wet oblique nib, you cannot expect less....
    • Bleed through: None
    • Flow Rate: Good
    • Lubrication: Good
    • Nib Dry-out: Nope.
    • Start-up: No problem.
    • Saturation: No
    • Shading Potential: Yes
    • Sheen: Faint
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Don’t recall
    • Staining (pen): Nope.
    • Clogging: Nope
    • Water resistance: A bit
    • Availability: Only in 20 ml bottle.

Would you call it a grey ink?

Your samples are very nice to look at, and I appreciate it!

Wow...that is a beautiful shading ink!
Makes me think of "Dorian Grey" for some odd reason...
I love the grayish-green color...it's greyer than "Vert Atlantide"...makes me think of older things.
    Very nice!

(EDIT: I think your scanner imparts a green color to the ink...nowhere else does it appear green)

Most welcome. I would say, a grey, blue, black...... I'll see if I have any comparison swatches later and do a scan

Glad you like it. Note I wrote with a vintage flex. It is possible it won't shade with fine, extra fine nibs, though

My humblest apolgies. In my haste to post this rather old review....I mistook the names.
The ink is Sailor Shimoyo and not Chu-Shu....

To the left, Chu-Shu - to the right Shimoyo

The undertone of Sailor Chushu is purple.
Thanks for posting the "real" Chu-Shu. Much appreciated.
I'm hoping if one of the admins, will change my Title.....

I don't like the color of the ink, but I gotta tell ya: your handwriting/calligraphy rocks!

Thanks Robert. It's the magic of an oblique flex nib
