It is with a great deal of sadness that I report that my wife's beloved father passed away this evening, 17/11/20 NZ time, in Shanghai, China, after a long illness.
Due to the pandemic situation and reduced international travel, neither of us have been able to participate in the ritual of Shou ling 守靈 - sitting vigil with the loved one in filial piety during his last moments, nor in the preparation of the deceased for the transition from 人世 rén shì - this world - to 來世 lei shì - the world that lies ahead.
We now enter a period of mourning for 49 days. During this time our thoughts will rest on the Amitabha Sutra. If anyone here would like to take a moment in their day to consider the words below then the world will benefit.
May all sentient beings be at peace.
May all sentient beings be free from all suffering.
