    Default Goulet nibs, fun!

Probably like many of you Goulet Pens has become a very frequent name on my credit card statement. When they announced their own nibs, well I just had to have one.

So I ordered a Noodler's Ahab and the 1.5 stub from the Goulet's. Fitting the nib in the Ahab took 15 seconds? 10 of that finding the little groove in the ahab that indicates "up" for the nib.

Works beautifully, and I really like the Ahab demonstrator with a SHOCKING bright ink.

The nibs is smooth as silk, a really fun nib to write with. No flex at all, as expected. But I'd recommend them whole heartedly. And at this price they'd be great nibs to learn to grind and adjust nibs with.

I would have to disagree with that. Their nibs costs $15 each. Noodler's new non flex nibs cost $2 each and are virtually the same thing.

Good point, I haven't even looked at the noodler's non flex nibs.

Have you heard if he is going to offer those in other sizes other than fine and medium?

While Im asking do you know when he is letting the rest of the world get hold of those new music nibs of his ???? Man I need to get one of those !!!

@ tandaina ~ Nice review. I love that you used a really bright ink to show of the nibs ability. It looks great on your ahab.

You can also get great Knox nibs for about $8, less if you buy a set.

And Fountain Pen Revolution nibs for about $4.

Yes, the price differential seems almost shocking if they are as similar as Dan says. The only difference, and it's a big one, is the broadness offered by the Goulet nibs. But, I must say, I have bought three of the Goulet #6 nibs, regular broad, 1.1 and 1.5 and love them all.

A bought a batch of Knox nibs. It was mixed results. The F is very scratchy and needed quite a bit of tweaking. The Buglow M was the best of the bunch. Looking forward to trying the 1.1 Goulet nib.

I think those are smaller than #6, but yes they are a great deal!

I purchased four fine Noodler's nibs and installed them in three pens - of those they all were smooth writing, no scratching and good ink flow. 2.00 ea can not go wrong even if I had to tweak them - but I didn't.

I haven't tried all my Knox nibs yet, just the broader ones and I think they are great. I had no issues with them. But thanks for the heads up though, I won't assume the same for the finer nibs.

And yes, the FPR nibs are #5 nibs, not #6. You can get the Knox nibs in #5 and #6 sizes.

Where can I buy noodler nibs? I didn't anything on Goulet's or IsellPens sites. The Noodler's page just has an announcement that they are coming soon.

Yeah I don't use F or M nibs (except in rare situations). Almost all my nibs are "odd" sizes, so I've missed on all the cheap nibs until the Goulets. Would love Noodler's to offer some uber broad calligraphy nibs.

I wonder if that will happen, probably not at a guess. Nathan seems to favour Speedball dip nibs, which is certainly a cheap, if labour intensive option:
