Default Sheaffer snorkel Admiral without barrel markings

Has anyone come across a Sheaffer snorkel without barrel markings but is engraved Sheaffer's Made in USA around the circumference of the cap just above the trim ring? I have one and I believe it is genuine. What was the reason for marking it this way?

    Thanks,

    N.K.

Sheaffer did sell the pens without any imprint on the barrel. I don't know of anybody who did a copy of the snorkel; too complicated. Wing Sung at one point made some clones of Triumph nib pens, but none with the same filling mechanisms. The imprints are there for the same reason that they're always on a pen - branding. They just liked to move things around. The white dots wandered all over the place depending on when the pen was made. Top of cap, bottom of barrel, above the clip, below the clip... or not at all on "lesser" pens that are just like the white dot pens except for the nib.
