Glad it all worked out in the end, the old English Duofold AF's take some beating in the writing department don't they, mine is still the best writer out of all my pens and that includes some quite expensive ones as well.

Everybody helped and that other thread will be handy the next time. My doubts with this pen were in knowing that the pen had been repaired previously and as the button would not budge, I feared that some 'non standard' repair had been done on the button.
This one is a Danish Parker with the Christian Olsen logo and a not very common chocolate brown colour. I really couldn't stand the thought of cracking the barrel as I doubt I would ever find a replacement. No matter, it now fills well and writes nicely and is heading north today back to its owner.

Update: The Duofold is back with its owner who tells me that having owned this pen for 17 years, this has been the first time he's been able to use it. It fills with ink and nib delivers it to the paper in a way that makes him happy. The owner seems to find this a revelation and is sure that I have some magic wand tucked up my sleeve. I took none of the credit for this telling him that I had a lot of help from the folks here.
I just wanted those who took an interest to hear the end of the story.
