Well, to explain that number I mentioned above:

Whenever I get new ink, I create an entry in my Excel sheet. I have three categories:

    1) Cartridges always get an amount of -1- ml (no matter if it is one cart or a whole 12-pack),
    2) samples are -5- ml, no matter the actual amount (it could be anything from 1,5 to 10 ml, I don't care for the sake of simplicity, because I get loads of samples from friends) and
    3) actual bottles enter the list with what the official amount of ink in that glass/bottle would (have) be(en).

Whenever I finish an ink, the amount is changed to -0- ml and the name of the ink is precedes with X ..., so it gets sorted at the end of the list, still there for reference but not within the stuff others could chose as a sample. I refuse to measure inbetween or count cartridges. So, my list may not be 100% accurate, but detailed enough to always know what I should have in general.

My current Numbers spreadsheet shows 446 entries that includes many ink samples in vials. I have some newer ink samples in vials that haven't been added to the list for a while so I must have at least 20 to add but I always update it when I buy bottles. Unless I forget.
Cartridges aren't included in the spreadsheet unless I happen to have a bottle or a sample in addition to them.

It'd be a chore to measure what remains in each bottle for a total sum, but thank goodness the capacity of my inbox deters me from squeezing more in.

Having a spreadsheet of inks owned sounds dangerously close to lining all your tractors up in one place. I'd hate for my nearest and dearest to lay eyes on a numbered list and realise how many I have. They might feel the need to stage an intervention.

And before you ask, even I don't know how many I have, never mind the volume. That way, if asked, I have plausible deniability.

Are you sure you have enough to make it over the winter?

Don't jest! This collector lined them up annually, and his son eventually had to help get them out and put them away each season. I stopped to take this photo near Waterfall, Pennsylvania USA in 2012. Alas, he died, leaving his son to distribute them to other collectors.

You should be proud of them. They are little bottles of potential.

(Unless you rarely write or draw with them... then maybe it's a little bad. But unless you are collecting vintage inks... at least there is a limit to how expensive fountain pen inks are... which is why I love buying them. In case anyone was wondering - I collect so many blank black it's mostly for the pretty/limited bottles... you can't be mad at that right?)

Indeed. One could label the bottles with the name of the novel one plans to write with it.

Assuming you mean black inks I'm afraid I hardly ever write with black ink as it just happens to be my least favourite. Just a personal thing. Out of my 458 (updated today) spreadsheet entries only 4 are labelled as black inks.

    Yes sorry, I meant black.

That's fine. We all have different preferences. I guess I just don't like diversity. That sounded edgy and dangerous. Oh well.

    I find that impressive.

    I'm like @ethernautrix

The amount of ink that I have is downright puny compared to some here.

The thing is, I can name about 10 inks that I must have, that's it. And if all of those are not longer sold, I'll find their similar replacements and move on.

Sure, once in a while I find a color that I am absolutely entranced with, but then I discover that for the price of a bottle, I can rescue another broken pen, so I just put them on a list, and once every other year or so, I go to Vanness Pens (dotcom, I wish I live close enough to pop in to say Hi) and order them as samples instead.

I guess I should be quite grateful I am not addicted to inks *also*, right, wallet?

I'm pretty sure that I don't have a single full size bottle of black FP ink. I've got a few samples of pigment/waterproof blacks that I'm sure I got for some reason and then chickened out of using, a bottle of rotring ink for my technical pens (which would be what I'd tend to use for black outlining if I needed to do it) and a little box of assorted and unloved cartridges that have come free with pens and never been used.

I've got lots of greys though. As well as blue blacks, green blacks, red blacks, purple blacks, brown blacks and even yellow black, purple black and orange black, and doubtless lots of other things with black in them.

I have no idea why, but I just don't like writing with black ink. Perhaps it's just a tiny bit of rebellion against all those forms that insist on being completed with it.
