    Question "Manuscript" blue shimmer ink

A 25ml bottle of blue shimmer ink was given to me by a postcard swapper who is not a fountain pen user. The brand is Manuscript Pen Company from Shropshire UK.

Does anyone wish to share any cautions about it? I've loaded it into an M400 B cursive italic for ease of flushing. It doesn't flow as easily as my two Christmas red and green Diamine shimmer inks in Pelikans with virtually identical nibs.

Cult pens include a cautionary note on their page: "Suitable for use with brushes, dip pens and airbrushes. If using a fountain pen, be sure to flush through regularly to prevent blockages." So it seems to be in the same category as all the other shimmer inks on the market.

I found them on the Cult Pens site Here
As silverlifter says there is mention of use with brushes, dip pens and airbrushes and a warning if you use the ink in fountain pens. I haven't checked if Cult Pens issue a warning about use in fountain pens on all of the shimmer inks they sell.

It's labelled as "Ink for modern calligraphy."

The only other shimmer ink that includes such a warning is Robert Oster:

These inks are fine to use in standard fountain pens as long as you flush the pen through thoroughly after use, but they're not suited to vintage or particularly valuable pens. Dip pens or brushes are the safest instruments to use.
Diamine, Herbin, and Vinta are all devoid of any caveats.

The manufacturer clearly states in his catalog that they are suitable in fountain pens.

“Create shimmering script with these versatile ShimmerInks. Suitable for use with dip pens, fountain pens and even airbrushes, the opportunities are endless!”

Of course other usages are possible and it would be bad marketing if they wouldn’t mentioned them.

Would you place such a subtile product warning also for Diamine Shimmering inks if somebody would ask? (As they seem kind of sponsor you)

In my experience it is expected and happens that some pens have a bad flow or even stop writing after some time with shimmering inks (mainly gained my experience with Diamine Shimmering inks)
Some pens play better and some worth with these inks, nobody should expect the same performance as with other normal inks in all pens.

What do we expect when we put solid particles in a ink?

They are showcase inks (from all manufacturers) and therefor already because of their nature a bit finicky.

I would not hesitate to use this ink as they are clear labeled for fountain pen use.

Thank you. That's good to know. Cult Pens tends to know what they are talking about.

Well, so far I've found Majestic blue shimmer fails to flow well from a broad Pelikan nib in comparison to either Diamine Red Lustre or green Magical Forest shimmer inks. When writing, Majestic blue leaves light gaps in lines, forcing me to slow down. I do not intend to adjust the nib to accommodate the ink.

And don't Pelikans tend to write wet?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

IMHO, I find Pelikan nibs/feeds are so reliable that (to quote Goldilocks) they're just right!
