Is this FB? I've seen more photo posting than rational discussion lately.
It's common to think we as white people are not prejudiced. MLK noted he had many white supporters that wouldn't want their daugthers marrying a black man.
There are bad white people and bad brown and black. It's easy for a white male to think he's self made and not considered what white females, brown and black men and women don't have the same path. Not to recognize this is to be self ignorant.
Pointing out you don't use certain words or think yourself better than others is not the same and not having a prejudice, but some soothe themselves thinking so.
And yet here we are. Rarity is not a substitute for accuracy.
Do you object to the BLM statement in the Yahoo post?
Do you object to Yahoo quoting the BLM spokesman?
Do you object reading the post which was linked here, without comment?
Does your reaction of calling my post "racist" expose your own "racism?"
Can you recover from failing to identify what you deem "racist" now that you've been confronted?
Is reparations a concept that is racist depending on who says it?
I have several kinds of prejudices, and some more that I am likely not aware of. I try to be conscious of them and work on them. I try not to express them or act on them, but I fail sometimes in that endeavor, too. When the prejudice is about ethnicity or skin color (or some other kind of "racialized" trait) and I speak it out act on it, then I am being racist. I am trying to be better, and I am trying to give voice, occasionally, to those points of view not represented in conversations among whites.
This gets called "woke" by some whites in an effort to disparage it. I hardly feel woke, because I feel I have so much left to learn. But I accept the label because who would not prefer to be awake? Isn't awakeness the spiritual pursuit of all humanity?

Oops...
That's a fine statement and question, who would prefer not to be "awake"? For me it is like, who would not want to be educated and informed? I see the problem on both sides as the extremes get the attention. If we could understand that in the middle are folks just trying to stay alive and have a decent life we might pay less attention to our colors, gentalia differences, and shapes. We are way past time to get beyond the pettiness of club membership. I think of the women and men who plowed new ground while being flawed. They weren't wearing a t shirt. They were just being brave and making a difference.

Yes, especially on internet discussion forums, and especially when our platforms use algorithms that lean toward extremism in order to produce more clicks, follows, etc ($). This has even happened in my family and caused breaches because people are responding to clips and memes from the extremes.
