I put some samples in the mail today to VO and mentioned in a note that it isn't just about how it looks on the screen, or on someone else's swatch, but how it works in *your* pen and how it looks and behaves on *your* paper(s). So I'm even willing to believe that an ink that works for me in a very similar situation may not be the Grail for another person's pen. It might be as simple as differing nib widths.

Hence, the joy of trying out 47 different inks. Or something.

and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

I wish I could stop seeing those Birmingham inks. I really, really want almost all of them and I'm way over my allowance for the month already. Thank goodness they're sold out of pens or I'd be drooling over those too, and I'm definitely over the limit there...

How about Birmingham Pens Bourbon? https://www.birminghampens.com/colle...oducts/bourbon

They also have a darker brown actually called Root Beer https://www.birminghampens.com/colle...ucts/root-beer

Seems like a grail deserves some degree of difficulty to obtain, so I’ll recommend pen and message cigar.

I can't handle root beer straight up; I always have it over vanilla ice cream.

So the "Caffe Crema " sounds perfect (to me).

    KWZI Brown #4 perhaps?

The one on the right there was much less ink on the swab than the one on the left. Dipped with a B on the left. Not sure what the right is written with.

If you want a sample let me know.
