Unfortunately, I never tried the old one. By the time I got into this hobby, PR was the ink from which everyone warned you to run away screaming. It was stories of pen-eating and mold and mass destruction. (at one point, I ordered some Lake Placid Blue samples, though, and nervously tried them out - LOVED IT! Hopefully that color will return.)

Anyway, I recalled Spearmint was a common one on pen review videos from the first half of the 2010s, and I always liked the looks of it. So I definitely had to include it in my first round of orders.

I briefly had a bit of phenol which I then put in my bottle of Spearmint....still no issues 4 years later....

My five Private Reserve bottles arrived yesterday from Vanness.

    New Style
    - Black Magic Blue
    - Spearmint
    - Dakota Red

    Old Style
    - Velvet Black
    - Chocolat Fast Dry

I have a drawer full of Jinhaos and Wingsungs to try them with at first, as well as my 2021 Parker 51.

Hey, throw a photo up for us (the curious ones) if you get a chance and you make a sample page.

I tried to do some samples, but I just can't capture the colors well.

But all five of these inks are working great so far in my chosen test pens. I picked a Jinhao 85 (Velvet Black), Jinhao 51A (Chocolat), Wingsung 601 (Black Magic Blue), and Hero 565 (Spearmint). These pens are IMO dry and a little scratchy, which is why they are not in my daily rotation. But these inks are making these pens write very nicely.

The Dakota Red went into my new edition Parker 51, which I already knew was a nice Medium smooth writer. The red works great here.

I cannot compare the new editions to their originals, as I never used these colors. But these inks are vibrant colors and flowing well. They bled a little on my Field Notes steno pad, but now outrageously and not any worse than other well-behaved inks.

I will probably keep these pens inked up for a bit.
