    Default Avatars

Many members (myself included) add avatars to their profile. What is the significance to you?

Mine is the headstock logo from my Froggy Bottom guitar. I used it first on a guitar forum, and added it to other forums to make it easier to find my posts.

Froggy Bottom guitars are hand made in a shed hidden deep in the woods of Vermont, and here's luthier Michael Millard carving braces.

Mine is, of course, the Swan from the barrel of a pen. This one dates to around 1946. The Swan changes through the years and Andreas Lambrou believes that it should be possible to date Swan pens on the basis of the Swan alone. I confess I'm not quite there yet!

The significance for me is that after many years of repairing and selling all kinds of British pens (and some others) I now concentrate on Mabie Todd pens alone. It's a kind of reward to myself, to be able to work only on the pens I love best.

My avatar is a drawing of the former logo of one of my favourite brands.

I use it since years and on all pen forums I am member of and even on Flickr.

My Avatar is a photo I took of the Red Arrows as they flew directly overhead while I was in Jersey. There just happened to be an air display there during a time that I went to play bridge in a tournament.

I've been using the same avatar since they were first around. It's always confused the hell out of people when they meet me and discover that I'm not actually a dreadlocked rasta (though many of my family are)...

    Hi,

at the moment mine shows two 1930s Swan nibs.

The photo stands for some things I like:
Swan pens, silver based photography, vintage microscopes / microscope cameras and a touch of art deco style...

    You know what!?!?

I just realized that I never setup an avatar on FPGeeks. Ever.

I did on FPN, reddit, instagram, facebook, and Pentrac... oh, wait, never mind that one.

Might as well upload one then.

It's a picture of my Ricoh Diacord TLR camera.

What's a TLR camera? It's one of medium format camera styles, taking in 120 film format, and producing square images like this one:

All this talk of avatars reminded me that I really should have one here. I usually use a picture of myself but decided not to now. I have many things that define me, and a nib or pen would be cute, but alas, inadequate. I'm a musician, but a flute is boring in pictures. So, I finally found something dear to me - a candle box from my childhood. They're Christmas tree candles and they're still made by the same company and in the same box. I love that colour and (wish you were here) the smell. Danish candles are not usually regular wax or paraffin. They want their candles made of sterin, which is whiter and has a distinct smell - the smell of candles from my childhood.

My parrots; PJ, the Senegal, preening Bertie, the African Grey. No significance except as evidence that Bertie was once grey where he should be. Nowadays, thanks to PJ's industry and his collusion, he sports a ring of pink feathers round the back of his head caused by her over-preening. The feathers are sufficiently traumatised that they turn pink when they grow back. He is, quite literally, hen-pecked.

I have a Burmese, and they are like no other cats. My blue girl is 16, and I am well aware that the day will come when I realize every moment not gratifying her was a moment wasted. My condolences on Reggie.

Wow. John Arnold posts to the AGF pretty regularly. Is yours a dread, OM, 00, etc...?

My Frog is an L - a little smaller than a Martin size 1, but has an amazingly "big" sound. I'm down to that and a Rein 00.

I just had the wife take a quick pic when I stepped out of the shower and was getting dressed. Seemed appropriate.
