Default About the new Visconti Homo Sapiens Demo Gems!

    Hello everyone!

I'm looking at the fresh from the press new Visconti Homo Sapiens Demo Gemstones and I'm wondering what fellow inkheads think about them!

Visconti will be releasing a new series of semitransparent pens based on the classic Homo Sapiens style.

They will be a regular line as opposed to the annual, limited edition Homo Sapiens Demonstrator pens that includes such gems as the Chiantishire and for now they have released images of three colors, Blue for Sapphire, Green for Emerald and Red for Ruby.

Here is the gorgeous Sapphire blue lady
    HS-Demo Stones-Sapphire-FP.jpg
A look at the Emerald princess
    HS-Stones-GREEN-RB-Close.jpg
and finally the satisfying deep red Ruby color
    HS-Stones-RED-FP.jpg

The material is of course acrylic resin, the pens are equipped with Visconti's power filler double reservoir, and the well known Visconti hook safe. Similarly safe choices in other technical characteristics regarding size and clip style.

Personally I consider the Homo Sapiens one of the greatest modern pens so this new edition is really exciting news to me. It's size is and round design fits perfectly - at least in my hands - and I'm really never tired of looking at it or just toying with the pen and the hook look. Weight-wise it also works great for me, as I find it substantial but not heavy enough to discourage long writing sessions.

I find these monochromatic semi-transparent pens really gorgeous, especially the blue one and I'm really looking forward to seeing them close up!

The only thing that perplexes me a bit is that Visconti has decided to go with their new 14kt gold nib instead of the 18kt gold that I assumed to be the standard for the Homo Sapiens line, but maybe that is just me. Probably the reason is to establish price segmentation between the normal Lava HS, the Gemstones, and the limited edition Demonstrators.

Also rather interesting is that they have decided to insert a cabochon-like piece on the top of the cap which is usually reserved for their logo & the My Pen System and trasfer the logo to the end side of the barrel. Not really sure it compliments the design...

Either way I really look forward to receiving them!

What are your thoughts gals & guys?

These are the least attractive of the HS line I've seen to date. The plastics make them look like far less expensive (and worthy) pens, the cabochon top looks like an eraser, and - in the ultimate statement of personal taste - I still don't like the bridge clip.

Honestly? I've thought, over the years, of getting one of the more original pens, because it has become iconic. After a while, though, the iterations of the same pen design start to almost look like a Chinese knock-off, which of course they aren't. There are a LOT of fascinating materials these days to make pens out of, the Italians are champions of this. Why they would put out these translucent versions - unless it is at a great reduction in price - I find a bit baffling.

Of course, I'm just one person. I bet a lot of people will like them. Good luck with your sales!

    Thanks for the honesty!

No doubt the resins cannot top the Lavas pen, but when attempting to deliver a demonstrator or otherwise semi-transparent pen what other material could they go with?

Don't ask me why but it reminds me the Omas Ogiva Cocktail line.

Nice offering! I wonder what the price point is? The Emerald Princess is a beauty, though I'd be more inclined to purchase a clear-glass demonstrator.
When it comes to Visconti...for me, it's the "Corsani" or nothing at all.

Regarding the price point, in the EU the suggested retail price will be €850 for the fountain pens regardless of nib thickness (EF/F/M/B/S), and €680 for the rollerball (I consider the idea of a demonstrator rollerball a bit absurd, but I'm trying hard not to be judgmental here). I assume in your part of the world it will be something similar.

Clear demonstrators, Aurora 88 Demo with black trims was love at first sight for me, but I am still lusting after it.

Oh, I get it - there are plenty of companies offering translucent pens. When I want a demo, I want a clear acrylic pen. When compared with the many wonderful body materials available today, I find the translucent plastic cheap looking, like they are making candy pens. You know what, though? LOTS of people like them, so it is probably a smart move. Just not a pen I'll ever purchase.

I tend to agree although for the right price I would go for the blue one.

I own a bunch of the HS line. I like the blue color but the "stone" on the cap is just cheap looking. Why did the do that! Plus it is too expensive!

I'm pretty sure the "stone" makes a reference to well...a cabochon cut gem and so to the name of the pen. Possibly also an interesting way to inject more life into the my pen system? If you don't like the original you can swap with a monogram etc.

Although obviously we've seen a lot of users who already added a cabochon styled bit on the top of the pen e.g. JParanee above, so maybe there's audience for that as well!

i understand that the "My Pen" system has been moved to the barrel. Making the stone not removable. Have you removed one?
