Default Mystery Price for MB 144?

I found this MB 144 on FB Marketplace. I asked the seller (not a collector/dealer) about it, and we got to talking. Turns out it ended up selling for $300+, which is way more than I would have expected! I'm wondering if there's anything particularly special or collectible about this pen that would justify the price. The pen has already sold, so I'm not exactly asking for advice... but I can't help but wonder: did I miss something important? Something I should look for in the future? Or was it just an overzealous buyer?

    There's also a video here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...Wy?usp=sharing

It's "lightly used". Based upon that and the pictures, it's been inked.

Let me know! Thanks so much!

I don't like going to off site links to look at pictures, so I tend to not go and look at them.

If you have trouble adding images to your posts then I suggest you have a look under the FAQ Tab^^^ go to Reading and Posting Messages > Attachments and Images.
You use the Manage Attachments box.

I added the images! There's a video that I couldn't add -- that's still in the Google Drive (in case anyone wants to take a look). Thanks so much for letting me know!

A reliable pen, the 144 is no longer made. Its been replaced by the "Classique" which has a screw-on cap. I'm not sure if the 145 is exactly the same model as the Classique.

The 144 I bought at the Navy Exchange in 1992 for under a hundred dollars has written many pages and required servicing only when its snap-on cap tended to slip off because I took it off the pen so many times during a day.

From the photos, it looks like the pen that sold for $300 was in pretty good shape, and the box and papers enhanced the luster of a model of Montblanc that's not seen as often for sale as e.g., the ubiquitous 146.

I bought one without box on ebay for $130 a couple of years ago. Model with metal section threads. I have a red (bordeaux) for about the same price at the same time.

I bought a 144 on eBay (see pics here https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread...MB-144-146-149) a couple years back when I was first getting interested in fountain pens. I was an undergrad without much money, and although I don't remember the exact amount, it couldn't have been much more than $100 (without box). Not that I'm looking to sell any of my pens and especially not my 144, but I had no idea they were going for so much!

It occurs to me to ask if the pen were NOS (New Old Stock), essentially an unused pen?

From the images the answer is a definite no.
