Many thanks for your sensible comments ( as always )

The P51 2021 DL costs £199, for me that is a very big pass, just not that good.

The new pen appears to be a nice continuation of the line. It feels good to see Parker 51 in productiion.

I attended a Zoom pen club meeting and Kirk Speer from Pen Realm showed us a new Parker 51. He liked how it wrote and liked it overall. He had no complaints about the fact that the metal cap threads screw onto plastic barrel threads. The price of the DL version seems high generally, but people will either pay it or they won't.

The new pen is in a current style. The original 51 was designed as pens worked at its time, and the new 51s characteristics are like pens are today generally. It appears to be nice, and people seem to like it, so its good. If I don't buy one it will be because I have more pens than I can keep track of. I just lost in the house a box full of pens I had bought in recent years and set aside, having no time to use them. Well, I am 72 and had a small stroke a few weeks ago. Getting better, though.

I also won't buy one because I have too many pens, but I like the idea of a 51 style pen that uses a converter. After all, the filling systems were always the main reason I never liked original Parker 51's. I like to change ink colours too much to have such a difficult to clean filler.

I'm very sorry to hear about your stroke and hope you continue to get better and make a full recovery very soon.

First of all... pajaro: You won't know me from Adam but I have read your posts with great interest for some time, and learnt a great deal from them. I was sorry to hear that you were unwell, and I hope that your recovery continues apace.

On an entirely different note in case anyone is interested, I have stumbled across a new P51 Deluxe Plum for just £151.64 at firststopstationers.co.uk, and a Black CT for a smidge below £59.

Thank you for the information. I might have considered one at those prices. Sadly no longer in stock.

Amazon UK has some of the CT ones at about the same price. I looked, but found myself uttering the inevitable "But I could buy an old one for that" and went no further.

    grainweevil,

"But I could buy an old one for that"

NOS Classic ones are selling on UK ebay at about the £130/£140 mark, NOS Custom ones at about £200+

Obviously vastly less if you wish to a well used example.

    As for your mention....

UK Amazon is offering a few right now.

On this link you can buy a Teal, Burgundy or Mignight Blue for under £60 delivered.

No good me buying NOS anything - I'd be too hesitant to "spoil" it! Besides "51"s are such robust old ladies, particularly the aeros, that it seems not worth the extra expense over a good clean used example.

I used to think that the NOS pen's very matte looking feed and clear sac on an aerometric 51 was a real pleasure to adore.

D'you know I was going to wonder if anyone will gaze upon the clear body of the converter in a new 51 with equal adoration, until I remembered they aren't including one.

I do wonder why an ink converter was not included with these P51 remakes.
They must only cost pennies to make.

The lack of a converter will be relished and adored by lovers of senseless corporate greed, counterproductive in its message to the customer base.

I've often felt this was beyond the pale, but it may be more standard practice than I had realized. In another venue I was reading a long post about online shopping for pens in the Japanese market, and one of the bullet points to be aware of is that virtually none of the pens - c/c pens, of course - come supplied with a converter. They are routinely considered a separate purchase.

I think it sucks, but I may not raise my eyebrows as often in the past when I hear it being done.

Assuming that the pleasure of adoration is one's primary concern then that may be so. After all there are plenty of collectors who prefer to buy pens in order to adore them.

However, there are also those who buy pens to write with and for some those NOS "old" pens are either too expensive or can't be found. I, for one, have never personally seen/held a NOS original Parker 51 aerometric, nor would I ever consider buying one of those I've seen pictures of due to their high cost.

As far as writing with a Parker 51 is concerned then a new twist action converter that can be bought separately might be considered as an advantage over an aerometric or vacumatic filling system that was harder to clean out for those who like changing ink colours frequently. And from what I've heard about the new Parker 51, one of it's advantages is it's ability to write well.

Maybe some manufacturers are even pricing their pens with the "collector" market in mind? Those who buy don't buy pens to write with don't need converters anyway. LOL

I really enjoyed reading the 3 replies above.

    Particularly Chrissy's one.

    Thank you.

I have now acquired all four versions of the ' steel versions ' all were Q1 Q2 2020 - first production runs.

Wanted to look at the colour of the shells.

I thought that the best colour by miles was the Midnight Blue ( it is different to the colour shown on the Parker pen UK site - it is darker and vastly better )
