    Default Daylight Savings Time

North America went through the hassle last weekend, while Britain has to deal with the heavy burden two weeks later. Last year, for example:

Not me - but I'd want to stay with summer time - I love the lighter evenings.

I'm still in favour of moving clocks forwards and backwards for summertime. I like lighter evenings too.

Wasn't it originally designed so that factories could stay open longer during daylight hours and save fuel? I think we still need the latter today.

I find that changing clocks doesn't actually change the time. The sun still comes up at the same time. Noon at 1pm? Gimme a break.

Changing the clocks changes a hundred points of reference during the day and is confusing to me. I solve the problem by leaving all my clocks in one time zone all the time, and then just considering people around me (banks, stores, etc.) to be in a different TZ for six months. From internet work I'm so used to applying an offset anyway, but for home use there's just way too many to consider.

PS: If you come to my house, you'll see a little sticker by some of the more prominent clocks which says "PST UTC-8" which I put there for the benefit of guests.

Like Chrissy I love lighter evenings. Then there's always that one night during the summer where there's still a hint of daylight at 9pm. I dislike when it becomes dark at 4:30pm....

I understand the principles and motives behind changing to/from Daylight Savings Time, but I'm not in favour of the it. In fact, I find it really annoying.

Luckily, I live in Arizona where we don’t exchange in such silliness. Long ago, we decided to reserve all of our silliness for the state legislature.

Personally, I enjoy the early daylight in summer when I’m up and about and most others aren’t.

Well luckily the early daylight has nothing to do with the clocks so you can enjoy it all year round.

Welcome to the forums by the way.

I will gladly accept Fred's suggestion to compromise - and have been of the same mind for years: split the baby and be done with this nonsense, i.e., come October we "fall back" one half hour and . . . don't mess with the clocks anymore.

One of the benefits of living in Japan was never messing with the clocks. A whole modern country that doesn’t bother with such silliness. Imagine.

India is a huge country and they don't do Daylight Saving there. Indian Standard Time, UTC +05:30.

That's not how it works though...Newfoundland Standard time is UTC -3:30 and Newfoundland Daylight time is UTC -2:30, so there is no compromise.

I like the sun at its highest point at the same indicated time all year. Just think of the wear it will save on the stones.
