Default Delta C/C pen owners: What converter do you use?

Despite the fact that Delta C/C pens technically fall under the "international standard" umbrella when it comes to cartridges, getting converters to fit them seems to be more of a challenge.

If anyone has a Delta FP that technically uses a "Delta threaded converter" please can you tell me if you have found any other converter that fits now that Delta converters aren't available? I have it on good authority that the Schmidt K6 threaded converter doesn't fit. Neither does the Visconti nor the Monteverde.

Any assistance at all with tracking down whatever replacement will fit a Delta C/C pen would be gratefully received. Or can any users please let me know what they have tried that doesn't fit? Thank you.

I phoned Cult Pens today to ask if they knew whether any of the converters they sell fit Delta pens. The person who answered has never heard of Delta pens.

I thought the Delta threaded version was a Schmidt K6. Have you tried a K5 (or even a K2)? They seem to be the most ubiquitous of all fits, and even pens designed for a threaded version will usually accept them.

I should take your source off the good authority list, because the K6 fits just fine. Further to mizgeorge's observation, I've found the K2 is the best one to try if faced with a pen that's not be as perfectly internationally standardised as one hoped. It seems more willing to stretch and deform than the K5/6.

As to Cult Pens, I'm not terribly surprised they didn't know. I'd be more inclined to try The Writing Desk for that sort of query.

I was only passing on the information I have from my good source who has dispatched the pen from California:

I tried the three threaded converters I had bought: the Schmidt K6, the Visconti, and the Monteverde. None of them fit!! It looks like the black nipple is too short and the metal part above the nipple is too wide. It just won't fit in.

Kirk Speer from Pen Realm says that tolerances for Schmidt converters are likely to be different than tolerances for Delta converters, so some adjustment may be necessary to make the Schmidt K6 fit in.

Once I have the pen in my hand I will buy myself a Schmidt K2 and K5 or K6 and see if they fit.

So go on, what's the pen (much more interesting than the converter!)?

    It's a Delta 366 I've been looking for one for a while.

Having just tried a K6 on my two threaded C/C Deltas, it's noticeable that you do have to push the converter on quite firmly to start, but if the metal collar is too large a diameter to fit then it sounds like neither the K5 nor 6 will be any use. The K2 might, perhaps. Or it could just be a life of cartridges for your new baby, Chrissy.

I've just received it today and there is an unnamed converter inside that fits exactly. My friend was trying to find me a spare one in case this one was old and failed. I tried a F-C converter and that doesn't fit. Nor does a Waterman. I will stick with the one I have until I can work out exactly which one I need.

When examining the 366 I can see it has internal screw threads right at the top of the section and around the base of the nipple is a square shaped inset. Not sure why that square inset is there around the nipple but I assume it controls the diameter of the plastic part around the hole.

The 366 is beautiful with a marbled pink barrel. Oh and it started life with a rhodium plated 18ct B nib that has been professionally and expertly stubbed by Gena Salorino from the Custom Nib Studio.

Never felt the need for this before, but...

And a screw thread with a square hole? That sounds, well... screwy.

I always planned to post some pics but I've been going through all of my odd converters to see if any fit. None do. This threaded one from Chatterley is the only one that fits properly. Sadly Bryant can't remember which one he put into the pen If anyone has seen a converter for sale that looks exactly like this one please let me know.

On a completely separate occasion another US friend gifted me some Birmingham ink samples and we arranged that they should be sent to the same friend who was keeping this pen for me. By a complete co-incidence they turned out to be different shades of PINK ink.
The stars were obviously aligned. Thus it was meant to be.

Are Delta brand converters available separately from pens?

Beautiful! I've seen this variation before and admired it a lot - I'm trying so hard to resist the lure of Italian pens, and every time I see one I weaken a bit more And that nib looks fabulous!

I have a feeling I'm about to take a visit to Birmingham Inks. Having now satisfied my need for Papier Plume, I think they're going to be my next ridiculously expensive bit of shipping, and those samples are just making it worse.

Yes the nib is fabulously smooth. I had to answer several questions that my friend asked me in order to pass onto Gina the information that she needed. My choices of wetness and angle were two of them.

If you need to spend a certain amount for an order with Birmingham please make contact if you need someone else to add in a couple of inks.

These inks are wet on Rhodia Dot Pad....

(Just so you know, my friend sent me a box of pen, inks and stuff weighing .9kg for $20 and some change.)

The latest chapter in this saga is that the end of the converter that sits on the cartridge piercer has split and that might be why the pen starts to write drier when I write with it at length.

Assuming no-one has a Delta threaded converter for comparison, does anyone possibly have a Leonardo threaded converter that they can compare against any of the Schmidt threaded derivatives: Schmidt K6, Visconti, Monteverde, Montegrappa, Kaweco to see if there is a size difference at the threaded end that goes into the pen? A Leonardo converter has the advantage of coming from the original Delta people and I wondered if it might be compatible with the Delta pen.

I can use an unthreaded converter or a cartridge instead, but I could buy a Leonardo converter if there's a chance it will fit.
