2022 seems the earliest restart for pen shows and the tactile experience of; writing, trying and touching with pens, inks and paper. Time exists, lots of it really, still people to hunker down and expand the circle we all write letters to.

According to the latest information on their websites, it does appear that the Triangle Pen Show will be held June 10-13, the DC Pen Show will be held August 5 - 8, the San Francisco Pen Show will be held August 27 - 29, and the Chicago Pen Show will be held September 30 - October 3. I have not seen an update on their site yet regarding the Ohio Pen Show, but if Terry proceeds and succeeds with Triangle, I am sure he will hope to do so with Ohio as well.

Obviously, everything is subject to change as conditions may dictate and of course each person is free to make their own choice with regards to whether they wish to attend. Personally, I am hoping to be at DC, Chicago, and Ohio.

What I want to do and what I will do are very far apart. Still. Thanks, COVID! I really look forward to my first pen show, even if I'm not realistically expecting to attend until 2022.

ETA: May 20, 2021 I'm glad I'm setting my sights for 2022. I did my back-of-the-envelope calculations for the SF Pen show. I plan to drive. After looking at reviews, Google Maps and other things, I'll want to have a full year to save up. For a few minutes, I thought that I certainly wouldn't save any money on pens because of hotel and parking costs. But that's not the main reason to attend a pen show, is it? I want to enjoy the experience of hanging out with fellow enthusiasts. I want to attend seminars and classes. I want to touch pens and see pens in person and enjoy the aroma of open ink bottles. I want to meet attendee-people and vendor-people. That's what I'll be paying for. And then I can drive home slowly, perhaps via Monterey and Carmel, or perhaps a more direct route on I-80. I want to shop at Ikeda's on the way home and have a peach milkshake if they have them. Maybe I'll want to visit Annie's Annuals in Richmond on the way home. I want to stop in Truckee to stretch my legs.

Ok, seriously, it is great to hear that the San Francisco Pen Show will be held this year. The 2019 show had this incredible vibe going on, just a fantastic show. Jon Szanto's 2019 San Francisco International Pen Show Recap! describes it perfectly.
