Default Diamine Earl Grey not writing as imagined

Well I bought this particular ink a few months ago. I've had no issues with Diamine in the past, but this ink just seems to write dry, then pool up at the oddest times. I've tried it in 2 Pelikan M205's. It makes me feel like I'm writing on plastic. It doesn't want to absorb into the paper. I know smooth paper can feel that way, but doesn't seem to with my other inks. I tried rougher paper and it just doesn't make me want to write with it. I've read good reviews on the ink so I don't know what might be happening. I don't want to give up on it just yet!

    That's very strange.
I use Earl Grey all the time - in fact I keep a pen permanently inked with it because I like the colour so much. I've just picked it up, having not touched it for probably a fortnight, and it's writing perfectly on the three papers I tried - and it's also a non-gold nib (a vintage Geha-Boy with a palliag semiflex). I'd say that like many Diamines, it's slightly on the wet side, feathers a little bit on poor paper and has a fairly slow dry time, but I've never come across anything like that.

If it's doing the same thing in two pens, I'd say perhaps you have a duff bottle. Was there any sitb?

Thanks for the info! No sitb, but yes I agree I think I got a weird bottle. I've had no issues with any other diamines. I might return it and try again

It's just a simple acronym for Something In The Bottle

I've most commonly read it to be Stuff, but occasionally Slime or, if feeling particularly upset about what it's done to ones pen (or pens), Sh*t In The Bottle. All round a Bad Thing, whatever you call it.
In the words of Paul Simon, you can call me Al.

I guess it depends on what one notices in what people say. I've noticed it being used to talk about separation in the bottle. Some inks are famous for that and when they sit for a while the layer on the top is not the same as at the bottom. In this case it makes sense to interpret the acronym as shit or stuff in the bottle though. Anyway, it just goes to show you that acronyms are not a reliable means of communication.
