The magical moment in that film, that is unparalelled in modern cinema, when colour is introduced is exactly the sort of transcendence that provides hope, and meaning, and a sense of luminous quality to the everyday travails we all face. If I have any religious sensibility, Tarkovsky captures it perfectly. Every frame of The Mirror is like that.
