Default Sailor Shikiori Sound of Rain Series

Has anyone tried the new Sailor Shikiori “Sound of Rain” series? https://en.sailor.co.jp/product/11-3059/

I’d love to hear feedback if you have. I don’t own any Sailors (bad experience with one a few years back that I returned), but this series is definitely tempting me!

    What was your bad experience?

That series is pretty, but the flat ends turn me off.

Bad nib ;-) Scratchy to the point of actually scratching paper

I only have one Sailor Pen, a Pro Gear Slim. It wrote perfectly from day one. It’s the pen that got me over my insistence that I would never EVER be one of those nutcases who would spend over $100 on a stupid pen.

Saw these Sound of Rain pens online last week and was intrigued. I like the colors, and the finish, and I happen to love the rain....but only a medium fine nib option? I plan on buying another Sailor, but the Pro Gear I have is MF. I wanted something different.

LOL - I got past my resolution never to pay more than $100 for a pen awhile ago! Now $100 seems like a deal!

That’s my hestiation as well. The one Sailor I did have had a MF nib and, apart from it being very scratchy, when I could get it to write, it felt a bit too fine for my tastes. Wish they did offer it with more nib options....

I have no experience of them at all, but the one in the aqua with the purple top is so pretty. I do think they're incredibly expensive though (or they certainly are here).

I’ve been searching online and there is a HUGE range of prices worldwide, some over 30% more than others. I don’t know what the suggested retail price is; maybe there isn’t one! The aqua with the purple top is my favorite as well, but, given that there is only one choice of nib size, I would be more inclined to keep looking for the lowest price.

    You mean this one?

If you live outside the EU they subtract the 20% VAT from the price but then you have to pay shipping. I think the only place in the US that still has some of the other models available is endless pens.

/counting pennies... I'm short by about $133. Good thing that one is sold out at Sakura Boutique, LOL!

Sailors are invariably good writers. Not head turners tho'.

I have an orange Shikiori that looks more like a 1911 than a pro gear. It's a couple of years older. Out of the box the nib had a pretty small sweet spot, so I did figure 8s on some micromesh, and now it's as smooth as glass. I also have a 1911, and its nib out of the box was pretty magic, although it had a sweet spot too, but not as small. But later I had Michael Masuyama do a cursive italic grind on it.
