    Default Thames river Ink.

I made a walnut homemade ink. It is based on LONDON THAMES RIVER WATRER ADDED hence the name Thames river ink.
This idea came to me from a writer who travels around Uk and picking up water from rivers and streams he is hiking around.
He is journaling and write letters to his friends about the ink he is using. That inspired me to make this ink and it is a great idea.
I made one walnut ink sample more golden by adding YELLOW "SOSA FOOD COLOURING " which is a pure organic pigments used in fine pastry ( I am a pastry chef too in another matrix ")
That ink came nice and golden and very great in dip pens to achieve very fine hair lines. I used tap water and aded cloves to keep the moulds away. So far so good and smells nice and delicious.

I am thinking of making an ink with chocolate. Why not???

I have already tried a glass nib with concentrated coffee and it works. So why not chocolate. White chocolate ink on a black paper will be fantastic.

I would really like more information on this. Adding cloves to ink will keep away mold? How does this work? Does this replace the need to add phenol or other biocide? If this works I'll gladly hop over to the supermarket to buy a bag of cloves!!!

I use whole cloves in my homemade dip pen inks too. Cloves are antimicrobal.

    @Carlos
I learned (adding Cloves ) this from a calligrapher and it works.
So never bother about using distilled water to avoid Moulds when using tap water as long has your cloves are available in a food supply store.
Otherwise you have to make the ink with tap water and at the end you have to finish with adding alcohol ( just as you make ex. tinchers of mushroom , vanilla or Frankincense essential oil )
Only thing is you have to be aware you put CRUSHED CLOVES ( NOT THE POWDER ) in fountain pens it will block the flowing. Dip pens you can see any pisces on the nibs and it can be wiped off.
Once I had a bottle of ink. it started smelling and had formed a layer of moulds. I removed that cloud and the layer of skinned of mould. Crushed some cloves added and it is better than a fresh ink now. Now it smells cloves and present.
Cloves are marvellous and have some natural Antioxident properties.

Et Bah dit -donC Cyril ... Oui ces't moi Yazeh!!! EN PLUS BIEN SUR !!!

I had a page in "Pastry" and "photography" in FAKE BOOK . I DUMPED IT 6 YEARS BACK. BUT I am still a semi-pro photographer.
Now I am running up and down in Calligraphy and my mind is everywhere. I lived in Paris more than 23 years. Then all the bugs of creativity hit me hard. and I am very handicap and paralysed with all the CREATIVITY.
I regret I never make any ink on based seine river. BUT I AM DOING IT ONE DAY. That is my dedication to Paris and seine river.
I'll name it "Quai de Seine " as it is my famous walk around.

I have some photos about Paris and France here on two site.

This is the HOME MADE INK AND IT IS WELL SATURATED FOR FOUNTAIN PENS AND DIP PENS.
I am going to do a little more change to have a thicker viscosity so it is is more efficient in saturation and flow.

I will definitely have to try this. I have exactly ONE bottle of ink with mold. But it is my only bottle of Parker Penman Sapphire....

I have that oil. I don't think it is a good idea.
But I am sure there are essential oils in synthetic forms and organic forms. Unless you have a guaranteed organic origin I never use any for certain things/applications . In this case if the oil is already is mix of A CARRIER OIL, you screw up your ink.
Not a good idea to mix anything directly to a base ink. Make always a sample and refill it. If you mess up then you have a back up to go back to start a new again.
Remember ink is water based and if oil dose not mix with ink it invites moulds faster and the capillary action is effected too when writing.

NEVER EVER MIX ANY THING TO A base ink. Make always a sample and refill it. then you have a back up to start with a new again. Oil dose not mix with watery ink well.
Mine is not syntehtic. I made some pomegranate ink. It's doing all right.
But that's a good point. Next time, I'll just throw in a few cloves.

If I could get an ink with chocolate in it, I think I might be able to get my wife to start collecting fountain pens!
