    Default Leaky Leonardo MZ

My Leonardo Momento Zero seems to be leaking ink. I think it's coming out at the base of the nib unit/section interface and I think it started after I swapped nib units to try some different nibs. I'm wondering if there is supposed to be an o-ring or something on the nib unit, because there isn't one on mine and maybe I lost it during the swap. Is there? Anything else I should look at?

    Thanks!

It is always possible that in inserting the new nib, the nipple of the nib unit got mashed in some way when connecting to the converter. In the MZ pen, the converter isn't just pushed into place, but has threads and is screwed into place (apologies if you knew this). A regular one would just pop out if the nib unit wasn't mating well, but maybe in this case... ?

If I were you, I would unscrew the barrel and section, unscrew the converter, remove and replace the feed, putting a little silicone grease on the threads of the nib unit, and then replace the converter by screwing it into place. Take a good look at the threads on the nib unit to make certain you didn't cross-thread them. If it doesn't leak, great; if it does, try one of the earlier ones that didn't, and then compare and see if the new one has a flaw.

That's the best I can suggest without having it in front of me. Good luck!

    Thanks, Jon.
I also have some additional nib units (I've just unscrewed and replaced the whole unit in this case and not pulled out the nib/feed), so I suppose I should also try a different nib unit that might tell
me if something got smashed or so. I also haven't tried the silicon grease - could be the ticket.

Check the nib unit. I know the newer models come with Jowo nibs and Jowo had a spat of problems with cracking housings.
I had a similar leak on a pen from a custom maker and it turned out to be the housing had basically split in two.

Thanks, Aurelius. Will do. The leak seems to be slow, so it's been manageable, but I need to fix it. I'll take a closer look.

I think the cracking case problem was for Bock nibs

No, Aurelius is quite correct that it's Jowo that's had the failures.

Given time no doubt it'll be attributed to Bock and blamed on Noodler's inks...

This is not even in question, it is a Jowo issue. There is plenty of information on the Meisternibs site.

Not to mess up the fun here, but the leaking seems to have stopped. Probably the nib unit was loose a bit or maybe it was just a one off amount of ink in the cap or something that went away when I cleaned it out.

I'm happy, because I really like this pen!

A gorgeous new selection of resins is available for the Leonardo Momento Grande, with options for appointments in rose gold, gold, or rhodium. The Leonardo Momento Zero features a traditional Italian design that is reminiscent of numerous pens from the heyday bubble shooter of Italian fountain pens.

I think I might have an issue with a leak where the nib section meets the barrel - i.e., at the base of the threads.
I have only observed ink there when I uncap the pen - not when I am writing.

    Any ideas?
