Yet they couldn't find a photograph of her using one...

What is that one she is writing with? It's not a Parker 51 and might not even be a Duofold.

Finding a picture of her using THE (or any...) "51" is remarkably difficult.
    (not sarcasm, I'm dead serious)
Still, the article feels like it was fluff meant to push their affiliate link for the NG51 that they have on the page... which it likely was... sigh...

I have tried before to find pictures of her with her "51"

and tonight... tonight I managed it!
    https://www.purewow.com/news/queen-personalized-letter
    the full image:

    and I managed it TWICE!

If you want to hunt down more (pls do!) the key I think is to find pictures where she is at home. (without a hat is a good start)
Since the legendary Burgundy "51" is her personal pen, it is unlikely you will find it in any "official signing" pictures as in those cases she would sign with whatever pen has been provided (including what looked like a felt tipped marker in one picture...)

    edit: and maybe again:

and another: (part way down the page)

I honestly don't know about this shot:
https://www.harpersbazaar.com/cultur...beth-pictures/ (go down to the picture of her at the desk in 1946)
it looks like a metal capped pen... could it be a "51" Vac? I mean... it's not like she wouldn't have had access to one... :P

    opinions?

Well, not to labor the obvious: on page 136 of the Shepherds' book about the Parker 51 there is a photograph labeled "HRH Princess Elizabeth in Paris in 1948." The picture is too small for me to say with certainty that she is writing with a Parker 51, far less a burgundy Parker 51, the photograph being in black and white, but the book was written with the help of Parker and the authors were presumably working from Parker's archives.

well now you've gone and done it...
I have that book, I hunted down the image (attached to this post)

It's not a good shot, but yes, it does look more like a "51" than any other pen IMO that would have been on the market at the time

but then... then I searched for princess Elizabeth Paris 1948...
    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...16?s=2048x2048

That sure looks like a "51" cap to me...
but then, it went further... I realized I could search GettyImages!

    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...24?s=2048x2048
    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...44?s=2048x2048
    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...86?s=2048x2048
    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...28?s=2048x2048
already referenced, but here's a better copy:
    https://media.gettyimages.com/photos...20?s=2048x2048

and finally, the ultimate. It's definitely a "51" and its dated 1946. so we basically have confirmation that she had a "51" Vac, and may still have it.

Very nice thread, Interesting story of Parker 51. This is the only pen I am missing in my pen lot. ( I am scratching my head )

I am wondering if she has ever tried any Jinhao pens???

well, seeing as how both of those companies make a lot of copies of other brands iconic pens (the 601 is a GREAT copy of the "51", I'm not complaining! )
it might be hard to tell from photos that don't contain closeup shots of the nibs :P

PS: if you don't have a "51" and you don't want to spend 100$ to find out if you'd like them, then I'd personally suggest picking up a WS 601 first, they are roughly 20bucks and a very good copy. It'll letcha know, IMO, if the "51" will fit in with your lifestyle/handwriting/aesthetic

man... At this point, Wing Sung may as well sponsor me... :P

    @ INeedaFinnancialAdviser.
Thank you for your finances advise about this pens.I have honestly they both in my Wishlist

"Also a 51 with an oblique broad is the second in the wish list too"

Some sellers in uk sell less than 100$ and you have to be on the right mood to get it.
Right now there's sale for 4-5 51s and they will go between 60 -80 and one broad already on the highest bidding.
Parker 51 is a nice pen

"51"s and snorkels are like cookies or brownies... no matter how much I want to... I just can't resist them!
