BP, I can only wish you perseverance and peace. No one should be treated this way. It is all just totally unfortunate.

Thanks folks. It is certainly not my intent to ruin Martin's reputation or harm his business, and I believe I'm presenting an honest and objective review of the pen, but moreso his service.
At this point, with a two month old claiming most of my attention, I have no interest in multiple trips to the post office to return the faulty nib unit, collect the new nib unit, send back the pen to have the join smoothed, collect the pen, etc. A straight refund would suit me just fine and would close the matter for me. In fact that's what I've asked for. Twice.

Just a bump to report that two months after I notified Martin of my concerns, and one month after his perfunctory reply and promise of a response "tomorrow", I have heard nothing further.
I don't think this post will achieve anything - direct emails have certainly been of no effect - but it is beneficial for my mental health to have an outlet where I can publicly record my dissatisfaction in Martin's handiwork and moreso his appalling after sales service.

I sent a rather brusque email to Martin yesterday expressing my extreme disappointment. He replied this morning with photos of the flooding in Bern and an offer to fix all the issues I raised. Now I feel like a complete jerk.

Don't. You had no way to know if this affected him (if it did), and you certainly saw him posting on other matters during this time. I understand your feeling - that is how I become, even if I have internally tried to consider all aspects - but this *is* business, and he has not treated you adequately. The one positive possibility is for the act of restoring your purchase to good order may broker a better relationship, as well. That would be value added. Best wishes to you both.

Agreed. Giving feedback is not always easy. Well, positive feedback is mostly easy, but critical feedback is not. However, feedback is a present for the receiver, and if you show courage and consideration in your delivery, one of which you seem to have shown more than the other ;-), you’ll be appreciated.

I see no reason for that. Not at all. Whatever problems the seller has/had,
1. you could not know about and
2. it is the responsibility of the seller to inform you about his problems.
These are the rules of professional business (even I, as an amateur seller, give the highest priority to communication).
But I am happy t hear that the seller is willing to solve the problem at least now. Good luck.

In the end how did the problem get solved? 4 more minths have gone by but no more news on the matter. Curious 🙂

I was able to make contact with Martin at the end of August. He agreed to address the issues I raised. Apparently the pen was dispatched to me on 18 October, but there has been no update on the tracking since the pen left Zurich.
I've almost forgotten about the pen.
I'll post an update on the repaired pen when/if I ever receive it.

I am so beyond frustrated with this experience. 21 December and no tracking update since it left Zurich on 19 October. I've asked Martin to initiate an insurance claim with Swiss Post - no response as of yet.
If this pen ever arrives it's going straight to the classifieds.

The pen finally arrived yesterday, so that is good.
Martin has smoothed the small lip by adding a beveled edge where the barrel meets the section (which undermines what originally attracted me to the pen: the uninterrupted line from nib to barrel end, a la Oldwin Classic), and the nib has been set in a new housing with no cracks that I can see.

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!
