    Default Pelikan M710 Yellow Toledo

    Hi all,

This is my third and latest pen of the series. I have the M700 black, and M710 Red, and now this one, M710 yellow <F>. The collection was unintentional, because I had wanted just the red and that being scarce at the time, I settled for the black. Then I got the red around the same time I joined FPGeeks. And now this one is completing the German tricolour flag.

This was the hardest pen for me to hunt down on a budget. A reputable German dealer (which I esteemed so much) had flatly refused to budge even ten euros because ".. It's sold out by Pelikan, and now ten times rarer than the black. No, sorry." she said. And that might be true because I can only find a whopping ONE pic of this pen on the web (other than product shots). Then I found a pre-owned EXC from another reputable dealer for a smidgen under 1K, but was told that the nibmeister was on holiday, so I gotta wait, and I thought "Heck, why not ask printhardcopy... He will probably want my kidney even if he got one, which I doubt very much!". Shot him an email stating my absolute maximum budget. To my great surprise the latter replied in less than a day, "Got one last piece NOS, unclaimed stock at Pelikan SG for $[ten bucks less than my max budget lol]" all with FedEx included. And only after a few days delay (because of he wasn't satisfied about the 'balance of the tipping', totally OCD about it) it is now history. My apologies for the long life story. But in short, the credit goes to my buddy printhardcopy. I owe you one mate.

Here it is among the yellows. The Faber-Castell colour pencil that matches exactly is "Cadmium Yellow".

I can't let this a comment like that go without wanting to see a photo of all three together!

Hmmm.. that must be one of those rare artificial phenomenon picture isn't it, I gotta wait for the conditions* permit for such a thing.

Here's the black M700, hoping that your strong imagination suffices for now :-)

That leather bound notebook is worth using a gorgeous Toledo pen like the one above. Excellent leather cover.

Love the look of the Design.Y notebook. The fact they have Tomoe River paper makes them really attractive. I did not even know about the Toledo until I ran into an auction for the nib off of one. I bought it and put it in my M200.

Thanks for sharing! The 710 red is my favorite Toledo too, but you're making me think the yellow is even more desirable; it's somehow
fun and elegant at the same time. I like the playful touch of your photos; it's not everyday one sees Toledos next to crayons and pencils

Awesome pictures, I never liked the look of the yellow one much until I saw your pictures. I have always wanted the red one but, I tend to get sidetracked making other pen purchases. One day I hope to get the red one.

Actually, it's even better since I got the M710 black/silver now, the real tricolour set. Hope you enjoy!

Someone was asking on how to decode the serial number on the barrel of the Toledo series at FPN, but I forgot my pass there. So, I'm gonna hazard my theory here. There are two formats, the old one and the new one. The only difference is that the latter has the first digit. Here goes:

First digit: 7 or 9 denotes M700 or M900 —slash
2x Alphanumeric: production year and month*
    2x Numerical: Production number
2x Alphabetical: The artist's initials (CT, JB, EH)

*How to decipher this? I don't know. I am still figuring that out. I'm too lazy to dig out the pens from storage and compare each with the certificates/boxes bla bla bla, hard yakka. Cheers.

    Dear Mr. Rex,

    Many thanks for your inquiry.

Regarding Toledo models kindly be informed that the code you are mentioning is an internal code only that is not stating an official code for production date etc.

With regard to the standard Toledo models in black there are no production dates given as they are under regular production.

Concerning the Special Toledo series please note below so to give you the production time.

The red Toledo M710 was launched in Sept 2009 and has been sold out beginning 2010

The yellow Toledo 710 was launched in 2010 and has been sold out beginning 2011

The black 710 was launched in Sept 2011 and was sold out in December 2011

Since 1985 we have the M 700 model - current

    Dear Pelikan Fine Writing,

I'm a Pelikan fan and collector from Australia. At the heart of my collection are Pelikan Toledos. I have a set of the M700 and all three (black, red, yellow) M710 special editions, & each pen inscribed with the unique serial number. My question is: How do I decode the serial number to tell the date of the production?

I know the first digit 7 or 9 means M700/M900, and the last two letters are the craftsman's initials. But I'd like to know the date.
