Default More About All That Institutional Racism

Assume the following to be true:

"...faculty members with firsthand knowledge of the admissions process say it has prioritized diversity over merit, resulting in progressively less qualified classes that are now struggling to succeed."

"Within three years of ... 2020, [named med school] dropped from 6th to 18th place in U.S. News & World Report's rankings for medical research. And in some of the cohorts ..., more than 50 percent of students failed standardized tests on emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics." "Those tests, known as shelf exams, which are typically taken at the end of each clinical rotation, measure basic medical knowledge and play a pivotal role in residency applications. Though only 5 percent of students fail each test nationally, the rates are much higher at [named med school], having increased tenfold in some subjects since 2020...." (emphasis added)

"One professor said that a student in the operating room could not identify a major artery when asked, then berated the professor for putting her on the spot. Another said that students at the end of their clinical rotations don't know basic lab tests and, in some cases, are unable to present patients.

"I don't know how some of these students are going to be junior doctors," the professor said. "Faculty are seeing a shocking decline in knowledge of medical students."

And for those who've seen the competency crisis up close, double standards in admissions are a big part of the problem. "All the normal criteria for getting into medical school only apply to people of certain races," an admissions officer said. "For other people, those criteria are completely disregarded."

"...the admissions committee routinely gives black and Latino applicants a pass for subpar metrics, four people who served on it said, while whites and Asians need near perfect scores to even be considered."

"It's a combination of a bad curriculum and bad selection," another professor said, referring to the admissions process. Some students are accepted with GPAs so low "they shouldn't even be applying."

I am trying to understand how this relates to institutions racism.

Let me apologize to Chuck, and try to respond to his question without assuming it was his answer.

In the About All That Institutional Racism thread a debate arose about whether there was, or is, institutional racism. I thought that analysis of the fact pattern above might be instructive about how people reach their conclusions on that issue

Obviously I could have been much clearer in presenting this topic.

Since I started that thread, I'll again explain.

"Institutional Racism" is the buzz phrase of the day for the progressive left, referring primarily to African Americans and Latinos. It claims these populations are repressed by "white supremacy", which is ingrained in modern culture.

It is also the case that there is little evidence for that, so it must be manufactured. Black NASCAR drivers interpret a pull-rope on a garage door as a "noose". A black actor paid other black men to accost him to create the pretense of being harassed by "white supremacists". College students paint swastikas and other racist symbols on buildings, and then record their "outrage" at being victims of said "white supremacy".

Additionally, there is great profit motive to participate in this narrative. DEI programs being adopted, books being published, institutes in universities being established.

The fact that there is so little evidence for something that built its own spotlight to shine upon itself naturally becomes apparent. In lieu of evidence, narratives become more ridiculous and everything is interpreted to be racism. The other thread is full of examples. Larry Elder (a black man) is the "black face of white supremacy". Spices are racist. Birds are racist. The list seems never ending.

As attention is drawn to the subject, several truths are brought to light. Thomas Sowell's work is a long history of laying out the data that it is a farce. John McWhorter dispelled the notion that black men are being killed by police in incredulous numbers. The narrative is collapsing under the weight of truth. DEI programs are now being abolished.

What also has come to light is that there is indeed "Institutional Racism". It's being perpetrated by progressive leftists against a different minority: Asians. The data clearly shows that bars are raised for them, while lowered for different minorities.

This comes full circle to this thread, and what is being termed as an upcoming "competency crisis". It's one thing to discover a university president is actually an imbecilic plagiarist. It's quite another to discover that these lowered bars will likely cost human lives (e.g.: African Americans having lower requirements to get into medical school than other ethnicities).

Academic standards are a sort of quality control built into the system. Lower the standards and you lower overall quality. It applies universally. See also: Boeing

More of a feeble attempt at best. Somebody had an experience and therefore everyone will have the same.

If all of that is true, it is is not good at all. I am in the camp of just treating everyone equal. Sames standards for all. I have never been a fan of affirmative action.

Ty Cobbs looks to be out as MLB’s all time hitter as the Negro League statistics are merged.

just what exactly do you mean by "all time hitter" I know Ty Cobb's career hit record was broken by Pete Rose years ago.

Okay looks like the record in question is all time batting average, not career hits.

I wonder what other records will be altered . . .

It has to do with Negro League stats being adding to and adjusting MLB stats, which does have to do with the subject of race.

Yes, but this topic is not about the broad subject of race.

You didn’t complain about NASCAR and a black driver being mentioned.

Did you think the quoted excerpts from the article we're about NASCAR?
