    Default Considering Presidential Elections

Out of curiosity how many different political parties have you voted for in the last few decades?

I’m interested in how rooted we are in our political beliefs.

Personally I have voted for 4 different ones.

(Please no bashing of current or prior presidents. We have many other threads for that.)

I was a registered Republican who has voted for Democrats since 2016. I don't have to register for a party here. I am now an independent. IMHO, not staying within the two big parties wastes you votes and gives the advantage to those you do not support.

Living in New Zealand, I was impressed by their political culture, which is built on the idea of fairness (rather than freedom). Candidates for parliament stand in their home districts and there is also a party list, with candidates seated according to the proportion of the popular vote.

The major parties (Labour, National, Green, ACT, and Mäori) often need to form coalitions to govern, e.g. Labour with Green. That seems to temper ideological frenzy with practical compromise.
